This year Australia’s theme is “Connect with your community” - because connection, support, and belonging are the foundations of our wellbeing.

Mental Health awareness breaks stigma, opens up conversations, and helps people get the support they need - especially in times of crisis.

Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting a person’s ability to learn and execute motor skills. This makes it difficult to perform common, everyday tasks, like doing up buttons, writing, catching a ball, riding a bike or driving. DCD is thought to affect approximately 5% of the population. On average, that means one child in every classroom could be affected by DCD.
The causes of DCD are not well understood. Like other neurodevelopmental conditions, the brain is thought to develop differently, impacting on a person’s ability to learn, plan and perform movement. As we celebrate DCD Awareness Week, we are reminded that each child progresses toward their goals at their own pace, supported by families and a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
