Such a great day hearing from likeminded health professionals as well as learning all about Haakaa’s new products!

Pregnancy isn’t just about physically growing a baby it’s also emotional and hormonal.

And while only one person carries the baby, support makes a measurable difference to both pregnancy outcomes and mental health.

Here’s what the evidence shows 👇

Emotional Support Matters
Research links consistent partner support with lower rates of antenatal anxiety, depression, and stress.
Simple things like asking how she’s feeling, listening without fixing can change how supported she feels.

Practical Help Reduces Risk
Lightening her load (literally) — doing the groceries, driving to appointments, or helping with meals helps reduce fatigue, back pain, and stress hormones.

Involvement Builds Connection
Coming to appointments, birth classes, or scans helps both parents feel informed and involved and strengthens the bond with your baby before birth.

After Birth
Support during pregnancy sets the tone for life with a newborn. You’re not on the sidelines. You’re part of the team.

Pregnancy care works best when it’s shared — physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Your presence matters more than you think. 💙

Tag someone who’s about to become a parent every bit of support counts.

Pregnancy already places extra strain on your body and when the temperature rises, it’s normal to feel more tired, light-headed or swollen.

But overheating during pregnancy can increase the risk of dehydration, fainting, or in rare cases, early contractions.
Here’s what helps:

Stay hydrated
Your blood volume increases in pregnancy, so you need more fluids to keep circulation and temperature stable. Aim for small, frequent sips throughout the day rather than large amounts all at once.

Keep cool where you can
Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (11 am – 3 pm). Use fans or air-conditioning if available, and take lukewarm not cold showers to cool your core gently.

Replace lost salts
If you’re sweating more, try including electrolyte drinks like or hydrating foods such as fruit, yoghurt, or soups.

Manage swelling
Elevate your legs when resting, avoid standing for long periods, and wear comfortable clothing that allows good circulation.

🚨 When to seek help
Call your care provider or go to hospital if you experience:
- Persistent dizziness or headache
- Reduced baby movements
- Uterine tightening or pain
- Vomiting, confusion or feeling faint

Listen to your body, rest when you need to, and stay cool both for your comfort and your baby’s wellbeing. 💙

Save this post for the warmer months ahead and share it with a mum-to-be who’s finding the heat hard going 🌞

I was lucky enough to attend a fund raiser last night on HMAS Supply. It was amazing to check out the ship and meet some of the people who keep us safe in our wonderful country. I consider it a privilege to be registered to provide care for defence personnel and their families.

Honouring the Memory of all Babies
Today, October 15, marks International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day — a day to honour the babies who are no longer with us and to support the families who hold them forever in their hearts.

At 7pm in every time zone, people around the world will light candles for the , creating a powerful moment of global remembrance and connection.
Each candle represents love, grief, and the shared understanding that no one should walk this journey alone.

Whether you have personally experienced loss or are supporting someone who has, we invite you to join the tonight. By lighting a candle, you send a message of solidarity and care to every family touched by loss.

🕯️ If you or someone you know needs support:
There are national organisations across Australia that provide counselling, community, and care for families navigating miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss.
Visit The Stillbirth CRE for resources and professional guidance — including support groups, counselling options, and information for loved ones.

To all families remembering their babies today, your love and their memory continue to shine brightly. 💛

Hi, I’m Andrew

I've been working in women's health for over 20 years, and became a specialist in 2005. I've undertaken broad training in general obstetrics and gynaecology, with additional training in advanced minimally invasive surgery (sometimes called "Keyhole Surgery") and infertility, attaining the additional qualification of Masters of Reproductive Medicine (UNSW).

One of the most satisfying aspects of my practice is being able to care for you throughout your reproductive journey from conception to baby.

In my practice, I like to have a relaxed consulting and communication style. You won't see me wearing a tie, and I prefer to be called Andrew, not Dr Zuschmann. I want you to feel comfortable, and I encourage you to ask me any questions you may have about your condition.
