You’ve just had major abdominal surgery.. and the advice?

“Just start walking!”

But no one tells you how to do it safely or why it matters.

Walking after a caesarean can support your recovery or set you back… depending on how it’s done.

As a Women’s Health Exercise Physiologist, here’s what I want every mum to know:

✔️ It’s not about how far you go
✔️ It’s about what your scar, pelvic floor and core can handle
✔️ And yes, laying flat after your walks can actually help your healing. You're not lazy.

We’re not chasing steps.
We’re honouring your body’s recovery from surgery 🙏🏽

Swipe through to learn the most overlooked walking tip for C-section recovery and how to walk with purpose, not pressure.

Ready for a recovery plan that’s tailored to your body?
DM "RECOVERY" and I’ll send you on your way.

Two years this June 16 🤍 Grief doesn’t follow a straight line, and I’m still moving through it. Some days feel lighter, others hit like a wave I never saw coming.

Personally, the words missed miscarriage still haunt me. They don’t sit right with me, not after going through it firsthand. But that doesn’t mean they carry the same weight for every woman who has walked this path. That’s the thing about loss - it's deeply personal.

The medical system already strips away so much control during this process. The least we can do is give that control back - letting her choose the words that feel right for her.

If you’re supporting someone through pregnancy loss, this is one of the most powerful things you can do. Give her the space to decide how she wants to be spoken about. And remember, her partner is grieving too.

Save this for when you need it. Share it with your village. Because knowing how to show up in these moments makes all the difference 🙏🏽

Surgery isn't the cure for prolapse.

Why? Because surgery doesn’t fix the underlying issue = how you manage pressure in your body. If you’re constantly bearing down on your pelvic floor (think: breath-holding, straining, ab gripping, poor core engagement), then surgery alone won’t stop prolapse from coming back.

A stronger, more functional pelvic floor starts with correcting how you breathe, move, and load your body.

💡 Before considering surgery, ask yourself:
✔️ Am I managing intra-abdominal pressure correctly?
✔️ Have I tried pelvic floor rehab with an expert?
✔️ Do I understand how my movement habits impact my pelvic health?

Prolapse is not just a "weakness" issue. It’s a pressure management issue. Surgery doesn’t teach your body new habits - it only alters the tissues. If we don’t address why prolapse happened in the first place, we can’t expect long-term results.

📢 Let’s spread the word—surgery is NOT the only answer! Share this post to help more women get the education they deserve.

Good bye fourth trimester 🤍

These photos bring me so much emotion, looking back on those two full days of labour. It was a magical few days and I will hold that space that James and I created, so closely with me, forever.

As I close out my fourth trimester, I’m reflecting on the pressures so many of us face to “bounce back” after birth. Society tends to focus on getting back to pre-pregnancy bodies as quickly as possible, but the truth is that postpartum recovery is deeply personal—and there’s no one-size-fits-all timeline.

The fourth trimester, the first 12 weeks after giving birth, is an essential period of healing and adjustment. It’s not just about physical recovery but also about nurturing the bond between mother and baby, adjusting emotionally, and finding a new rhythm in life. Current research emphasizes that postpartum progression is not tied to a specific timeframe but is instead unique to each woman’s body, her birth experience, and her emotional landscape.

Studies show that it can take up to a year for the body to fully recover after childbirth. This includes healing of the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and the emotional adjustment that comes with such a monumental life change. Rather than rushing through recovery, it’s important to honor the process and listen to what our bodies need.

Postpartum physical changes are normal, and while some may feel pressure to return to a pre-pregnancy body, I’m learning to embrace where I am right now. The fourth trimester isn’t about looking like we did before—it’s about accepting the incredible changes our bodies have undergone and giving ourselves permission to heal on our own terms.

There is no “ideal” postpartum timeline, and every woman’s recovery is as unique as her pregnancy journey.

So, if you’re like me and navigating the ups and downs of the fourth trimester, remember that your recovery is yours alone. It’s okay to take your time. Let’s shift the conversation from bouncing back to bouncing forward. Share this with a Mama who needs to read these words today ✨

My Birth Story: Part I 🤍

I went into my birth with a lot of preferences. I wanted to go into spontaneous labour and avoid anything that was going to disrupt, or take me out of, my hypno birthing state of mind. That being, no vaginal examinations, no CTG monitoring, no epidurals and all questions to be directed to James, to ensure I didn't tap into my prefrontal cortex (decision making part of your brain).

Why?

All the research that I chose to engage with showcased countless studies on disrupting a women's labour with interventions to strongly correlate to slowed contractions and even more interventions. It's what I chose to believe going into my birth and I do not regret it for even a second.

Harriet came 15 days after my 'estimated due date'. Those 15 days were tough. Not on my body but with all the external noise around me. 'She's so late!!', 'dont go past 40 weeks, it's so dangerous!!!', 'have you had your baby yet?', 'WHEN are you getting induced?!'.

I stayed with my knowing. I trusted my baby. My sweet girl was not ready to come out and I am so SO proud of myself for not giving in to the hospital policies and advice from everyone other than my midwife. I kept reminding myself that the estimated due date is only an estimate. It's wrong 95% of the time and for whatever reason, my baby girl needed more time in my womb. Harriet came out when she was strong enough, and that was 42.1 weeks gestation. She was a tiny 3.2kgs. I just can't even imagine the difficulty she'd have with feeding if I chose when she was ready to come out. I know there are many schools of thought here, but this made sense and felt right, for our family.

The week leading to my labour was interesting. I thought my waters had broken on the Monday. I woke up in a puddle of fluid that morning, so I was so excited to get things moving! Turrrrrns out, I had just peed the bed 😂🤦🏽‍♀️ We didn't find this out until much much much later in my labour, but I'll get to that in part II. SO - 'yay my waters have broke'. From this point on, I was also getting tiny contractions, maybe 3 in a row each night for three nights. Things were definitely moving.
