Part 3 - not the best video footage. But I felt it’s important to share.
Those who have attended my circles would know I incorporate water blessings as an offering and prayer.
This has been inspired by my roots.
In the Dāna ceremony held after a loved one’s passing, a sacred ritual known as pan watura pinkama takes place. During this moment, family members and blood relatives gather to pour water from a kendi (traditional teapot) into a pan potha (vessel) while the monks chant the verse, “Idam me ñātinam hotu, sukhitā hontu ñātayo.” As the water steadily overflows, it symbolises the continuous flow of pin (merit) being transferred to the maranayata pattu (the departed). Just as overflowing water cannot return to its source, these blessings are believed to reach the spirit of the deceased, supporting their journey in the afterlife and bringing peace and upliftment to their next birth. This ritual is an expression of maithriya (loving-kindness) and guru bhavana (reverence), reminding the living of the impermanence of anicca (next life) while upholding the sacred bond between generations.
We have 3 generations here pouring water for my athami. I feel blessed to be here and present during this ritual.
