Re-sharing because this is exactly what the MNC "Small habits, Big Wins!" challenge is all about 💪

Remember it's totally free to participate and will see you succeed with any resolution/habit/something needs to change feeling you have.

It's a simple challenge that will take less than 10 minutes a day and can be used for anything you want to be more consistent with in your life.

Grab a friend and do it together 👯‍♀️

Comment I'm ready 💪 and let's get you started!

James Clear wrote: "The real reason habits matter is not because they can get you better results (although they can do that), but because they can change your beliefs about yourself.”

So start with something simple, drink a glass of water in the morning, go to bed 15 minutes earlier, go for a 10 minute walk...whatever you choose, keep doing it. Then choose something else.

Small habits, done consistently, can achieve great things.
YOU can achieve great things.

What habit would you like to do more consistently? What stops you doing it?

Happy 2022 MNC Family!! Are you ready for a new challenge?

I know you've heard me say it before, but the power of small habits, done consistently, can't be underestimated.

My wish for you all is to face the year with no fear and no regret. The quote "what would you do today if you knew you could not fail?" springs to mind for me.

It's at this time of year we see all the "New Year, New You" stuff. I don't know about you, but I kinda like me and don't want a new one!

I would like to be more consistent though, and build better habits....

If you build a solid foundation, when the next thing comes along to shake your world, your habits will keep you strong. Maybe you'll wobble a bit but you'll stay on your feet.

That's why I'm offering a FREE 2 week habit building challenge starting January 10! It's called "Small Habits, Big Wins!" and will set you up to achieve any habit you choose this year.

Because resolutions, no matter how motivated you are when you make them, won't work if they're not sustainable. The only way to make them sustainable is to make them a habit.

I want to inspire you to make the changes you want for your health, happiness and life in a way that makes sense to you and works into your lifestyle....not the other way around!

2022 is the year to re-imagine your dream life. YOU can create, design and build yourself up and I want you to believe in your power to create change.

Comment "I'm in!" if you want to join the MNC community on Monday 10th January and together we'll make it happen!

How do the Christmas kg’s creep up?

By consuming more energy than you burn, simple. So if you are wanting to keep your energy intake balanced, it’s a good idea to make a plan. Knowing what Christmas parties, family events and other celebratory events you have ahead of time will help you decide what to eat and when.

For example, on Dec 22nd, 23rd and 27th, I will have some lighter meals. Lots of fresh fruit and veggies and quality protein. I don’t want to miss out on anything, or feel guilty and not enjoy Christmas deliciousness, so I’ll make space for those foods imma want to eat at Christmas! Work it into the plan.

Think of your week collectively as an average. 12.01am doesn’t flick a magic switch in your body that resets your energy “allowance” for the day after the stroke of midnight! So I suggest counterbalancing high energy intake days like Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with a few lower calorie days either side.

If you're invited to some pre Christmas get togethers, ask your hosts if you can bring a plate either for appetisers or for a meal, maybe even a side salad or fruit salad that you can add to your plate. This ensures you have a healthy option available.

My advice is to put some thought into a meal plan for the week and then follow it. It will come in super handy, in all the craziness that is the days before Christmas, to have meals prepped and ready to go so it’s one less thing to think about.

Here’s my tips:
⭐️ Have salad ingredients and quality proteins ready to grab and go.
⭐️ Grab a roast chicken, boil some eggs, buy some cooked prawns. All excellent, delicious and quick ways to make those lighter meals.
⭐️ Pack a snack (nuts, protein bar, apple) to keep you fuelled during long shopping trips. Don’t fall into the fast food trap at the foodcourt!
⭐️ Make a meal plan for the next few days. A rough guide is fine, just make sure you have the components prepped and ready to go.

Do you need any ideas for some lighter meals that are delicious and satisfying? Post your meal plan in the comments to give us all some inspiration!

Please always turn the packet over.

If there’s a lot of numbers or ingredients you don’t recognise, it’s probable your body won’t either! 😓

And just when you think food manufacturing can't get any more mad than Zooper Dooper Flavoured Milk, in comes Slush Puppy Pouches.

This is why The Root Cause Stands for Children's Health.

This is why myself and our team of incredible instructors are passionate about empowering kids to learn to ask What's In My Food?!!

Let me break this one down for you by looking at the packet.

Firstly let's look at the marketing on the front of this packet.

👉It's Blue Raspberry. Turn the packet around and you'll find there are NO Raspberries in this at all.😡
👉Look at that Slushy dog - Isn't he cute? Oh and he has his thumb up and licking his chops, so it must taste great. Bet he's meant to attract the attention of just adults, don't you think😂
👉Find your flavour - inviting you to buy more than one and choose which one you think is the best.
👉250ml

This is why in our Kids Health Quest Membership and our Children's Health Program for schools, we teach the kids to ignore the front of the packet.

The front tells you absolutely nothing about what's in this product at all.

Let's turn it over and look at the back now.

Look for the ingredients first. If there's more than 5 ingredients, it's an ultra-processed product food which means it is an industrialised formulation.

🎇Ultra processed foods are not foods required for health and they usually do not help our one body for life. In fact, in many cases, they take away from their health. 🎇

There are 11 ingredients in this 250ml pouch. It falls squarely in the domain of an ultra processed food.

Breaking the ingredients down. Here's what you need to know.

The ingredients are always listed in the order of highest to lowest in terms of volume.

👉Water
👉Sugar
👉Apple Juice Concentrate (fancy name for sugar)
👉Humectant (422) usually used to extend shelf life but sometimes to add a sweet tasting properties
👉Flavour - who the bleep knows what's in this????
👉Food Acid (330) - usually used to extend shelf life. Some people may be affected by this - symptoms may include allergic or hypersensitive reactions, and skin ailments like eczema
👉Preservatives (202, 211) - 202 is Potassium Sorbate and 211 is Sodium Benzoate. Both maybe derived from petroleum and potential effects may include allergic reactions, asthma, headaches, hyperactivity, skin irritations, stomach upsets.
👉 Colour 133 - Brilliant Blue colour. Derived from petroleum with potential effects of allergic reactions, gastrointestinal symptoms, may cause hyperactivity, prohibited in foods for infants, suspected carcinogen, suspected mutagen, suspected neurotoxicity.

The Information about additives has been sourced from the Chemical Maze app.

But if you're still thinking about this product, let's go look at The Nutrition Information Panel.

What we're looking for here is the amount of sugar, fat and salt in a product. When looking at this panel, look at the per serve column to work out how much you are getting per serve.

👉Fat is 0g in this product
👉Carbohydrate Sugar - 46.2g - this is 11.55 tsp of Added / Free Sugar!!! The World Health Organisation recommends for optimal health, ADULTS have 6tsp across the ENTIRE day. This one pouch has almost double an adult recommendation for the entire day!!!
👉Sodium - 20mg - this amount of sodium is ok (less than 120mg sodium per 100g is low salt)

So there you have it. That's what is in a Blue Raspberry Slushy Pouch.

I'll leave you to determine whether you think this food would be helping yours or your kids one body for life.

I'd be interested to hear your comments.

Like we teach kids in our membership and Children's Health Program for schools,

🌟Always remember to ask What's In My Food? 🌟
