If fussy eating and stressful meals are best friends 👯‍♀️ then...⁣
⁣.. we just need to say goodbye to one of them, and the other will follow through! And it's true! Don't let the norm determine what YOU can do and how you live.💖⁣

If you're getting exhausted and dreading mealtimes, then I want you to know that there is a way to create for good!🌈⁣

You see, the problem with is that it keeps changing.🤯 One day it feels like there’s hope, yet the very next day it's gone. We try one method and it helps once (maybe twice) but things just always seems to revert back to where it was, if not worse.😭 ⁣

That’s simply because we aren’t getting to the root of it all. And that’s why it’s so important to get to know YOUR child and just a few steps ahead so we’re always prepared for change.💡⁣

If you're eager to say goodbye to fussy eating BY building the key foundations to and relationships with food, I have some exciting news to share with you very soon! Follow me to hear it the second it comes out! 💕

Less is more - and it's true!👇⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It doesn't need to look like a feast every dinner when you are trying to increase exposure to new foods with your child. 😌⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What typically happens when we focus too much on food variety is:⁣⁣
1️⃣You run the risk of fatigue and exhaustion from all the cooking! 😩⁣⁣
2️⃣Your child may or may not become MORE overwhelmed by all the food that they might not be ready for. 😵⁣⁣
3️⃣You end up becoming a short-order cook because you're worried about them! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Building your child's confidence to try new foods can be done with very simple meals too. What's holding you back from cooking simple meals? ⁣⁣

Feeling OVERWHELMED by information? READ THIS STORY!💕⁣

This is a true story that holds so dear and close to my heart... it's about my own mum. ⁣
Till today, she still chokes a little when recalling early days after I was born (as a premmie, 8 weeks early 🥺).⁣

My mum was told by health professionals at the time that I wasn't gaining weight quick enough and that I had to be fed 180ml, 6 times a day. So she did, as best as she could, every day on the dot, without fail. ⁣

And each time.. I would only bring it back up 🤮🤮 (likely because I wasn't able to tolerate the full feed amount in one sitting! 🤷🏻‍♀️). This continued and led to all sorts of long term repercussions growing up (story for another day!). For almost a year, it was a vicious cycle that wore out my mum's heart. Every pain and suffering that I went through - every check-up, fever, skin rash or prolonged recovery - became another reason for doubt and a sense of failure because she wasn't able to feed me.⁣

As a dietitian who can take the time to work super closely with families, right at their home... I always feel so blessed and grateful that I can share my knowledge in a way that is meaningful, intentional and more importantly, becomes an asset and strength in YOUR parenting.⁣

Have you ever felt that knowledge and science has overwhelmed you or made you doubt yourself as a parent? Like and DM me about your story! I would love to hear about it. 💕⁣

And it will continue to change with your child's development👇⁣

Not only does eating require toddlers to build skills, but also to develop and co-ordinate MULTIPLE things ALL AT THE SAME TIME! (I always compare this to kind of like becoming a manager in another country and learning their language, all at the same time! 🤣)⁣

If eating is so complex then just like any other skill, it requires us to get to know your child so that we can tailor "lessons" to help them learn about it better. ⁣

I want to encourage you today to embrace this and give yourself a pat on the back! The process of feeding will always continue to be a journey as you get to know your toddler better - and this journey will similarly evolve with both you and your toddler as they continue to grow. 🌱⁣

Share this with someone to spread the word about how complex eating and feeding really is! 💌⁣

🤔 Was your toddler was once a good eater too? 🤔

🌈 It's quite common for toddlers to suddenly stop eating foods they used to eat.
🌈 It typically starts at about 18 months of age - earlier for some, later for some other. (...and this can be MUCH later too!)
🌈 What's important is to understand WHY and if early support is needed.

IF you start to notice your toddler's eating change, there could be MANY reasons for this. 💕

Here are 3 questions to ask yourself:
💭 Have you noticed changes in other areas of their development too?
💭 Will they eat the food again after a week?
💭 Are you worried about potential nutrient gaps or growth?

Follow me on where I'll share more about this topic in my next post! 💖

Save this mealtime checklist for more enjoyable mealtimes and share it with a friend you're thinking of! 👯‍♀️⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This post is a simplified version of a resource that I made, inspired by parents just like yourself. I hope this will help you feel more supported and fill your family mealtimes with joy too! 💖⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Here's what you need to know! ⁣⁣
🌱Inviting your toddler at the table helps them feel part of the family! So go ahead and remove the tray if that's still there. ⁣⁣
🌱Eating together at least ONE meal per day can help teach your child the joy of eating with you! ⁣⁣
🌱Eating together means eating the same food AND at the same time! Never too early to start teaching your toddler this. ⁣⁣
🌱A footstool will help them stay more focused during mealtimes (especially if your toddler likes the little feet dance during mealtimes!)⁣⁣
🌱It's okay if they aren't ready to eat the food yet. Letting them have fun with it will help them feel more ready in the future! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Remember, mealtimes don't have to be perfect to teach your toddler something helpful! What would be one thing you would like to teach your toddler about mealtimes today? Let me know in the comments or DM me! 💌⁣⁣

STOP AND READ THIS IF YOU THOUGHT THIS TOO!⁣
⁣
We hear how development is linear:⁣
from crawling👣 to walking🏃‍♀️ ⁣
from bottle 🍼to solids 🥦⁣
⁣
GET THIS: ⁣
🌈Normal development can happen WITHOUT looking 👀 linear. ⁣
🌈Yes. Let me repeat that again.⁣
🌈NORMAL DEVELOPMENT CAN HAPPEN WITHOUT 👀 LOOKING 👀 LINEAR. ⁣
⁣
What we see can be VERY different from what is actually happening. It can take a whole healthcare team to understand and explain exactly what's happening in the body when your bub is growing and developing. ⁣
⁣
What this could look like in the feeding world is when your child will eat a "favourite" one day, and refuse it the next! Don't let this dishearten you and try offering it again after 3 days. ⁣
⁣
If they continually refuse it and you're worried about their development, join my Feed with Confidence Program where we work intimately to give you the tools to make mealtimes enjoyable for YOUR bub! ⁣

Grown ups VS Toddlers ⁣
Swipe and save this post for some of the reasons WHY your child is refusing new foods! ⁣
⁣
We are afraid of changes! Let alone our little humans! What you see as a “new” food could be so different to how your child might see “new” food.⁣
⁣
“NEW” food for your child can be as simple as ⁣
💛A new colour ⁣
🔶A new shape ⁣
🌽A new texture ⁣
Or even how it changes their 💩. ⁣
⁣
Some toddlers can be *really* good at noticing the smallest changes in these. This can come across as stronger food refusal or resistance.⁣
⁣
Don't let this dishearten you from sharing and teaching them about all the yummy foods we have! 💪⁣
⁣
Work with me where we can explore what exactly is stopping your child from all these new experiences and how we can help them become confident eaters during mealtimes! Link in bio or DM me 💌 ⁣
