Alpha Omega is looking for a Care Partner who can speak English and Assyrian to support older people in our community.

What’s involved:

• Working with clients under the Support at Home program
• Care planning and coordinating services
• Using your bilingual skills to support Assyrian-speaking clients
• Part of a friendly and multicultural team

What we’re looking for:

• Bilingual English and Assyrian
• 1+ year experience in aged care or care coordination
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Driver licence

Last week, our wonderful Arabic and Assyrian Aged Care participants gathered for a festive spring social outing at La Vita Mediterranean in Edensor Park!

We celebrated some lovely birthdays, had a blast with games like bingo, and shared a small, heartfelt farewell for our amazing coordinator, Rana, as she heads off on maternity leave!

The Australian government announced that 20,000 additional Home Care Packages will be released between September and October 31st. This is a great step toward reducing wait times and helping more Australians get the support they need to live independently at home.

A new supported decision-making approach starts November 1, 2025, under the new Aged Care Act. This creates important new responsibilities for care providers, families, and supporters.

Need to prepare? The Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) has launched a new Supported decision-making toolkit to help older people, their families and supporters understand what supported decision-making is, why it matters, and how to use it in everyday life. It includes practical tips, easy-to-understand information, and examples to help people stay in control of decisions about their care, services and daily life.

It's National Carers Week! 🎉 This is a time to recognise and celebrate the 3 million Australians who provide vital unpaid care to family and friends.

This year's theme is "You are, know, or will be one," highlighting how caring impacts virtually everyone at some point in their life.

From 1 November 2025, the Australian Government is introducing a new Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme as part of the Support at Home program. The AT-HM scheme provides products, equipment (such as a wheelchair), and home modifications (such as a shower rail) based on your assessed needs.

This afternoon the Alpha Omega office staff spent some time learning about how we can ask others R U Ok.

We learnt that you don't need to be an expert to reach out - we just need to be a good friend and a great listener.

We learnt that we could use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in

A conversation could change a life, so don't be afraid to ask each other R U Okay?

Last month our Aged Care clients took a trip into the city where they enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Sydney Harbour and also had a delicious buffet at Sydney Tower!
