Don’t forget to treat this important aspect of hair loss! 💥

Perifollicular inflammation is very important to address if it is present. It impedes hair growth and. This inflammation represents one particular type of white blood cells attacking the stems cells of the hair.

It is a shame how often it is forgotten- because it can make a huge difference to someone’s outcome when treating their hair loss.

Is it possible for a product to speed up your hair growth rate?

No.

Certain ingredients are able to keep your hair in the growing phase (Anagen) for longer. But nothing can make the hair itself grow faster.

Have you got “scalp feelings”?

The burning, itching, tingling or discomfort can relate to a number of hair loss and scalp conditions.

Best to be checked out by a Trichologist to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.

Myth: stopping minoxidil makes your hair loss even worse that it would have been.

This is a myth. If you were to stop minoxidil, you simply lose the benefit it gave you, and your hair will return to how it would have been if you had never used minoxidil.

All treatments for pattern hair loss (genetic thinning) are long term. So any treatment should be considered as something you will be doing for a long time.

Did you know that washing your hair more often doesn’t make the scalp produce more oil?

Ultimately your hormones are what dictates sebum (oil) production with:

Androgens ⬆️ oil production
Estrogens ⬇️ oil production

You washing your hair or not will make no difference to the production of oil.

BUT the longer we leave it between washes the more sebum will accumulate.
Excessive oil can disrupt the scalp pH and microbiome. So my advice is the wash your hair and scalp frequently to avoid oil build up and scalp problems

If you have been diagnosed with autoimmune hair loss, there’s one thing by that can make a huge difference for you right now~ reducing stress 💥!

Seriously. You need to prioritise yourself. 🫵

You need to find a way to reduce, or, at the very least, compensate for the stress you are experiencing.

Some ideas are:
- meditation 🧘‍♀️
- Walks in nature 🌳 without devices 📱
- Nice, long, warm baths 🛀
- Yoga
- Guided breathing exercises 😮‍💨

Reducing stress will ultimately help to reduce the inflammation that underpins these conditions.

🤱Postpartum hair loss

☝️Typically, post-partum hair loss starts about 3 months after giving birth and the hair ‘shedding’ carries on for around 3 months.

💊 This type of hair loss is self correcting ~ no supplements or product will make any difference to this hair falling out or not.

⭐️If it has been more than 6 months since you had your baby, and you are still experiencing hair loss, this requires further investigation with a Trichologist. At this point in time, it is not likely that childbirth is still causing your hair loss.

All my friends in their 30s have hair loss- why?

This is an impossible question to answer without having seen and consulted with all of these people

Why?

Because ‘Hair loss’ is not ONE thing….

1. There are many different types of hair loss, which present differently and have different causes

2. And the same TYPE of hair loss can have completely different underlying cause in one person Vs another:

Eg hair loss of the same diagnosis, that appears to look the same, could be triggered by iron deficiency in one person, influenza in another, an environmental exposure in another, the passing of a loved one in another, having a baby in another… and so on

Hair loss is complex~ this is why the profession of Trichology exists!
