🔹Experiencing freedom from our pain and suffering involves feeling the things we are unwilling to feel.

👉 For example, I had to allow myself to feel the shame, guilt, sadness, and loss of losing the function of my arm. The more I pushed those feelings away, the more I suffered in pain.

🔹Our emotions around the pain cause us great distress because we fear the process of feeling them. We don't want to feel bad for ourselves, and we don't want to feel like a burden.

🔹But not feeling these emotions mean they remain stuck in our body and can become the drivers of our pain.

⚡ Acknowledge your fears, your loss, your shame, your suffering. Allow yourself to feel it cause you are stronger than you know. Realise that emotions are there to be felt. Pain recovery is about feeling your pain and moving forward.

⚡ Going through persistent pain changes you. It brings out the parts of you that you were trying to hide. It makes you feel vulnerable to the world. It challenges you to grow.

⚡ Pain can be seen as a curse. However, you have the ability to reframe pain to be a blessing. You will learn more about yourself, learn to empathize with others going through pain, learn to appreciate the little things, and learn to rise above the noise.

⭐ Pain will teach if you are willing to learn and listen. Listen to your pain and you will hear its whispers.

Healing pain is a process. A practice. There is no destination. You have to fall in love with the practice. That is the only path to true freedom from pain.

Pain is always present but our relationship with it can change significantly.

⚡ Healing pain is about nurturing the skills that empower us. The skills that allow us to engage with the beauty of life. The skills that shine light on the human spirit.

⚡ Healing pain is about loving ourselves, being grateful for what we have, and reminding ourselves that we are strong, capable and deserving of the life we desire.

👉 Please reach out if you need support on this winding road. I can promise you that the road does get easier to drive. Believe in yourself.

🔹 Pain is often too abstract to truly grasp. But if we take the time to give it a voice, a face, a personality, we can begin to foster a healthy relationship with pain. A relationship that is build on understanding and respect.

It may be helpful to ask questions of your pain...
Why are you here?
What do you need?
How can I help and support you?

It may seem silly at first, but opening the doors to an open communication with your pain can begin the journey of recovery.

👉 Please DM me if you need support on your pain journey.

👋 Hi All! I have been quiet the last few months as I have been going through a period of transition and transformation.

🔹 A period of low creativity and motivation. A period of rest. A period where I have dropped the urge to post when I simply don't feel like it. Listening to my body, mind, and spirit. Searching for inspiration. Choosing to wait for something to say.

👉 If you are someone experiencing persistent or chronic pain, you may have been going through your own transitional journey and/or transformation. You may be struggling to drop your old sense of self or identity.

⚡️ This is normal. It is actually a critical phase to lead you towards the new phase. You will begin to shed what you think you were meant to be to becoming the person you were actually meant to be. ⚡️

🔹 Experiencing freedom from pain is not a linear journey. It is fraught with obstacles on the path. Please DM or comment below if you need help on your journey.

My lived/living experience of pain has led to and informs my passion for making a difference in how we manage pain in healthcare.

My story began in 2017 after a traumatic bike accident left me with no movement in my right arm and no prognosis for the future of my injury. The accident totally changed the course of my life.

Persistent nerve pain was not something I had experienced before and the disabling injury left me angry, frustrated, lost, lacking direction and purpose.

I was lucky enough to have the support network around me to allow me to succeed. However, like many pain sufferers it can be an isolating and lonely experience. Others can certainly empathize and put themselves in your shoes but unless they've had a similar journey it is very difficult to imagine.

Pain became my greatest teacher. The only way out of pain was through it. I learnt to use mindfulness and meditation practices to break free of the suffering, a daily practice that requires discipline and perseverence.

I am really proud to say that I am now living a life true to my values and purpose. To help relieve suffering in others.

I share my story with the aim to empower pain sufferers and shine light on persistent/chronic pain, a condition that impacts 1 in 5 people globally.

I hope to provide a beacon of light to people in pain. Never lose hope. There is light at the end of the tunnel. You are stronger and more capable than you could ever imagine.

P.S. The photos were taken in 2018 after my surgery.

🔹 What is Integrative Physiotherapy?⁣

Integrative physio aims to treat you as a whole person. Taking into account your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. It takes a holistic approach with evidence-based strategies such as psychologically-informed practice, mindfulness-based interventions, and therapies targeting overall wellbeing. ⁣

🔹 How is it different to regular physiotherapy?⁣

Integrative physio is aimed at looking at the multitude of factors that contribute to pain and injury to optimise healing. Traditional physio predominantly supports your physical health with manual therapy and exercise interventions. Integrative physio looks at your psychological state, lifestyle factors, behaviours, as well as your physical health.⁣

⚡️ Integrative medicine is a rapidly growing area of healthcare and will continue to rise as the greater population start to see the benefits of an integrative model of care. ⁣

⚡️ I am extremely proud to call myself an integrative physiotherapist, a term I wish to champion and pioneer in Australia. It is already a growing area of physical therapy in the US and is being taught in universities. It is only a matter of before the physio profession catches up to the fact that integrative and preventative healthcare is the future of allied health. ⁣

🔹 Love can be incredibly healing 🔹⁣

But because love is so hard to define and its properties somewhat intangible, the medical world tend to ignore it. I believe this needs to change. Therapists and patients alike could be integrating love into all aspects of healing. ⁣

The intention of healing pain could always begin with love. Loving yourself and loving others can be a powerful healing force on your journey to recovery. ⁣
