🏃‍♀️ New to running? Start strong and stay injury-free with these 4 key principles: 🏃‍♂️

🔹 Load Management – Ease into it. Your tissues need time to adapt. Too much too soon = higher risk of injury.

🔹 Pace Management – Run at a pace where you can still hold a convo. It’s not about speed, it’s about *sustainability*.

🔹 Distance Management – Quality over quantity. Start with shorter distances and build gradually – your body will thank you.

🔹 Progression Management – Be consistent, not aggressive. Stick to the 15-20% rule (no more than 20% increase in volume per week).

Running should *build you up*, not break you down. Take the smart path, not the painful one. 🧠💪

Follow for part 2 of our running series, where we talk about warm ups.

We are so excited to announce our new physio, Canis!

"Hey there! I’m Canis, your dedicated physiotherapist at ESPR Therapy & Training.

Born and raised in Hong Kong (And yes, I can fluently conduct sessions in Cantonese and Mandarin). My journey into physiotherapy roots from a passion to help others, culminating in a degree from the University of Sydney in 2023.

Throughout the years, I am blessed to have placements in renowned hospitals like Royal North Shore Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which have deeply refined my patient care expertise. In private sectors, as a physio student and a certified sports trainer, I delved into various musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries, mastering advanced manual therapy techniques and pain management approaches alongside exercise therapy.

Beyond work, I embrace challenges, from regularly hitting the gym or exploring the great outdoors through hiking and running to travelling around the world and learning different cultures. Each day presents an opportunity to learn and grow, a philosophy I embrace wholeheartedly.

Having been a patient myself, I understand firsthand the impact of compassionate care. In fact, I was once a patient of Andrew’s. Now's my turn to extend that same level of support and transformative care I received to others, guiding them towards optimal health and well-being. With me, you'll find a therapist and a partner committed to unlocking your body's full potential!"

Let Canis guide you to better health and a better life. Book NOW (link in bio)

💻💼 CORPORATE WELLNESS 💼💻

A lot of us are now working from home. This brings convenience but can also make us stay locked onto our screens for longer.

The longer we stay stuck in a sedentary sitting posture we develop tightness in our neck and shoulders muscles, stiffness in our neck and back, and even pain in those areas.

The key to undoing or preventing stiffness is simple: just move. We recommend setting a timer every 30-60 min to remind yourself to take a quick 2-5 min break to move around and break the prolonged static posture you've been in.

However, if you are still experiencing that annoying neck/shoulder pain or headache, rest assured. We've got your back (or shall we say neck 😂).

At ESPR we use a combination of manual therapies (massage, acupuncture and joint mobilizations) to relieve the neck pain and headache you may feel. You will also be prescribed a tailored mobility routine to get you back to fluid movement and freedom.

THIS WAY UP ☝️

During these uncertain times we may have feelings of doubt, fear, anxiety and depression. These feelings are normal given our current circumstances and you shouldn't feel guilty or ashamed of not being your "normal self". After all these aren't "normal" situations that we are going through.

Furthermore what's also normal is seeking help if you have something that's bugging you. At ESPR, we always recommend seeing a professional psychologist to get help, no matter how "small" you think the problem is. However if you aren't comfortable with this or unable to see one, we would like to introduce you to
https://m.facebook.com/thiswayupAU/

THIS WAY UP is an online program developed by St. VIncents Hospital that includes a variety of evidence based self paced courses that teaches you ways to manage your feelings of stress, anxiety or depression. As clinicians, we can prescribe specific courses that suit your needs and waive the $59 that comes without a clinician referral. So if you want to learn ways to manage and cope with stressful feelings, please DM us so we can have a chat and prescribe the right course for you.

Love and peace ❤️✌️!

INTRODUCING OUR DIRECTOR AND HEAD PHYSIO!!

"Hi everyone, I’m Andrew and I head ESPR Therapy & Training.

I’m passionate about helping people discover their potential and achieving their goals. For me, that means building resilience and strength (both physical and mental) in you to overcome whatever obstacles you’re facing.

I completed my Bachelors in physiotherapy at the University of Sydney in 2017 which has taken me to both public and private sectors. A key highlight of my career is working within an elite NPL 1 soccer team which involved modifying training loads and integrating rehab programs to help athletes recover and return to the field ASAP.

Over the years, I developed an interest in the area of strength and conditioning which led me to complete an internship at one of Sydney’s most renowned S&C gyms - Ethos Performance. From this, I learnt how to program training blocks so that athletes can gain the specific movement qualities that will enhance their sporting performance.

I have also completed further study & training in pain science and dry needling which allowed me to understand and minimise patients symptoms.

Outside of work, I train regularly in MMA and spoil my 2 beautiful pupperinos - Nala and Kira - to bush walks and hikes. If you have an injury or training goals, I’ve got your back!"
