Moving into your own place under the NDIS can feel overwhelming, sometimes.

The NDIA released a landmark framework on 16 December 2021, designed to enhance the NDIS experience for people with 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆—s𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

This Recovery Framework is grounded in six core principles:
1. Supporting personal recovery—helping participants live a life meaningful to them.
2. Valuing lived experience—ensuring policy reflects real voices among participants.
3. NDIS & mental health integration—for seamless clinical and disability support.
4. Informed decision‑making—empowering participants with clear, helpful resources.
5. Responsive to fluctuating needs—recognizing the episodic nature of many conditions.
6. A trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented workforce—so staff and partners are equipped and compassionate.

Developed through wide consultation with participants, families, carers, experts, and governments, this framework represents a new chapter of recovery-centered support within the NDIS.

It means better guidance, more flexibility, genuine inclusion, and services that really fit each person’s journey—so that everyone with psychosocial disability can pursue independence and community connection with dignity.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the lives lost and the people injured in the Bondi incident.

Not every support visit needs to launch straight into tasks and to-do lists. For many people, feeling safe and grounded first makes all the difference.

We like to build in “soft starts” to visits, which might look like:

💜Sitting down for a check-in and a cuppa before doing anything else
💜Allowing time for sensory or emotional regulation – headphones, quiet time, stimming, movement
💜Talking about what feels manageable today, and what needs to wait
💜Respecting a person’s right to say, “I’m not up for that task today”

These gentle beginnings can reduce anxiety, build trust and actually make the rest of the visit more productive.

At Better Now Disability Service, we aim to work at your pace – some days that means doing a lot, some days it means focusing on feeling safe and steady. Both are valid.
