Music Therapy continues to be funded under the NDIS when it meets reasonable and necessary criteria.

It usually sits under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living.

A few important things to know:
• It must be delivered by an AMTA-registered music therapist.
• It needs to relate to your individual goals and functional capacity, not simply leisure or entertainment.
• Like all supports, funding decisions are made by the NDIA and are based on your specific plan.

If you are unsure whether Music Therapy fits within your goals or funding, it is okay to ask for clarification.

Support should feel clear and informed, not confusing.

If you would like to talk through how Music Therapy works within the NDIS, we are here.

Seeing changes in your NDIS plan can feel unsettling.

Sometimes it is a small adjustment, called a Plan Variation. Other times it is a broader review, known as a Plan Reassessment.

Both are part of how the NDIS works.

If something in your plan has changed and you are unsure what it means, it is okay to ask questions. You generally have up to 3 months to request an internal review if you disagree with a decision made by the NDIA.

You do not need to navigate the terminology on your own.

If you have Support Coordination in your plan, your coordinator can help explain what has changed and what it means for your supports.

And if you simply need someone to talk it through with, we are here.

Behaviour Support and Behaviour Assessment and Recommendation are related but different supports under the NDIS.

👉 Behaviour Support focuses on supporting daily relationships and quality of life.

👉 Behaviour Assessment and Recommendation provides evidence only and does not guarantee funding.

Understanding the difference helps with informed planning.

If you are unsure which applies to your situation, we can help explain.

One of the biggest misunderstandings about the NDIS is who actually makes the decisions.

Here’s what is true.

Under the NDIS Act 2013, funding decisions are made by the NDIA. That decision is carried out by an authorised Delegate within the Agency.

• A Support Coordinator does not approve funding.
• A Plan Manager does not approve funding.
• They cannot add money to your plan or change your budget.

What they can do is help you understand what has been approved and how to use it.

When the NDIA decides whether something is funded, they consider whether it meets the “reasonable and necessary” criteria under the Act. Your Support Coordinator can help you gather reports, quotes, or other information if you are requesting changes, but they do not make the final decision.

Once funding is approved, you are the one who chooses your providers. A coordinator can suggest options and help you compare them, but the decision is always yours.

Understanding these roles matters. It helps you feel confident about who does what, and it protects your right to choice and control.

If you are unsure about a decision made by the NDIA, you generally have up to 3 months to request an internal review. If you need help understanding what that means or how to prepare, we are here to talk it through with you.

Support should feel clear, not confusing.

Support Coordination costs can feel confusing, especially when you are trying to plan ahead and make funding last.

Pricing follows NDIS Pricing Arrangements, and funding levels are determined by the NDIA. A Support Coordinator should work transparently and help you understand how funding is used.

We have shared a simple guide explaining how pricing works so you can feel more informed and confident.

“I’ve had the privilege of seeing the positive impact Rebecca has had on a loved one of mine. Her warmth, professionalism, creativity, and love of music and self-expression have been such a steady and positive influence, helping my loved one navigate complex emotions, find their voice, and work through some profound feelings of loss and grief. We’re deeply grateful that she’s part of our team.” - Rebecca L.

Stories like this remind us that meaningful support is built on trust, safety, and genuine connection.

International Women’s Day is often about celebrating strength.

But strength does not always look loud.

Sometimes strength looks like attending an appointment when you are tired.
Sometimes it looks like advocating for your needs in a room that feels overwhelming.
Sometimes it looks like learning to say, “That doesn’t feel right for me.”

To the women navigating disability.
To the women advocating for their children.
To the women supporting ageing parents.
To the women rebuilding confidence after setbacks.

Your strength might not always be visible.
But it is real.

The NDIS speaks about goals and capacity building. Today, we acknowledge something just as important. Resilience, self advocacy, and the courage it takes to keep showing up.

You deserve support that respects your voice.

Happy International Women’s Day 💜

The NDIS is often spoken about in terms of budgets and categories, but at its core, it is built around participant goals and choice.

Under the NDIS Act 2013, participants have the right to exercise choice and control in pursuit of their goals, including across different stages of life. That means your supports should reflect where you are now, not where you were six months ago.

If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure, it does not mean your plan has failed. It may simply mean your circumstances, priorities, or pace need reviewing.

A few important things to know:

🟣 Plan adjustments
If your situation changes, you can request a reassessment or variation through the NDIA. Changes are considered on an individual basis.

🟣 Goal-based support
NDIS plans are structured around your goals. There is no universal “speed” for progress, and everyone’s journey looks different.

🟣 Working with providers
Providers and Support Coordinators can help you understand your plan and communicate changes when needed, but funding decisions remain with the NDIA.

You do not need to wait for a crisis to ask questions. A conversation about how things are going is a valid and responsible part of using your plan.

Support starts with being heard.

If you would like to talk through where things are at for you right now, we are here to listen.

There is a common misconception that Support Coordination is just about “finding providers.”

In reality, it is a funded Capacity Building support designed to help participants understand and use their NDIS plan more confidently.

Under the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, Support Coordination sits within Capacity Building. The purpose is not to take over decisions, but to work alongside you.

What Support Coordinators can help with:

👉 Plan clarity
They help you understand your funding categories and what supports may align with your goals.

👉 Service coordination
They support you to connect with providers, understand service agreements, and coordinate supports.

👉 Monitoring and review preparation
They can help you gather information and communicate with providers ahead of a plan review, particularly if your circumstances change.

📌 Important to know:
Support Coordinators cannot approve funding, change budgets, or guarantee plan outcomes. Those decisions are made by the NDIA.

The goal of good Support Coordination is to help you feel more informed, more confident, and more in control of your own plan over time.

If you are unsure whether Support Coordination is included in your plan, check your Capacity Building budget or speak with your planner or Local Area Coordinator.

If you would like help understanding how it works, we are here to talk.

The NDIS is built on the principle of choice and control, but it can feel hard to exercise that choice when everything feels urgent.

Many participants feel pressure to start every service immediately once a plan is approved. In reality, most NDIS plans run for 12 months. That gives space to make thoughtful decisions.

Building a support team that understands your goals is often more important than building one quickly.

Taking time to:
• Understand your funding
• Compare providers
• Ask questions
• Clarify service agreements

can help you feel more confident long term.

Starting steadily does not mean you are behind. It means you are making informed decisions within your plan.

If your plan feels overwhelming or unclear, it is okay to ask for explanations. Support should feel respectful and grounded, not rushed.

If you would like help understanding your plan at your own pace, we are here to talk.
