Today is Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day, a time to acknowledge the many ways RA can shape daily life. From pain and stiffness to fatigue and uncertainty, it sometimes asks a lot of the people living with it. We see the effort it takes to keep going, to adapt, and to look after yourself even on the harder days. Today is about recognising that strength, and reminding everyone with RA that they are not alone in their experience. 💜💙

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒂?
Prolia is a six-monthly 📅 injection that works by reducing bone breakdown, but it must be given on schedule. If a dose is delayed for too long, its effect can wear off suddenly and increase the risk of spinal fractures. Keeping injections 💉 on time is the most important part of making this medication safe and effective.

It’s natural to wonder whether you still need to take medication once you’re feeling better. Rheumatologist Dr Pauline Habib explains why stopping methotrexate too soon can sometimes lead to flares, what doctors usually consider before making changes, and how medication tapering is best managed.

👏 At BJC Health, we love celebrating our clients’ milestones. From walking further without pain, to lifting more with confidence, to building strength you didn’t think possible...your wins are our wins too.
Some of the more recent celebrations include clients getting back to hiking trails, carrying their shopping with ease, and even returning to sports they’d once given up on.

Our EP Celebration Wall is full of these stories, reminding us that progress comes in all shapes and sizes!

🤔 Do I need to stop methotrexate around the time of taking a vaccine?

Vaccines are a regular part of health care, but many people wonder if methotrexate makes them less effective. In this clip, Rheumatologist Dr Pauline Habib explains what current recommendations say, whether pausing methotrexate is ever helpful, and how to balance both treatment and protection.

If you’re keen to dive deeper into methotrexate, watch Pauline’s full Part 2 talk on Demystifying Methotrexate here: https://www.bjcconnect.com.au/app-resource-center/july-9-demystifying-methotrexate-part-2-part-1

❓ Is there really a once-yearly osteoporosis treatment?

Yes, there is. Zoledronic acid is a once-yearly infusion that provides year-round protection against bone loss. The first dose can cause a temporary flu-like 😷 reaction, but most people find it settles quickly. For those who struggle with tablets 💊 or prefer something they do not have to think about often, this treatment can be a very practical option.

What drives us?

Our Purpose is to change the lives of people with rheumatic disease to help them live & feel better.

The clinic began in 2002 as a multidisciplinary clinic targeting musculoskeletal disease and was named, The Bone & Joint Clinic.

We recognised that the way forward in improving the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injury would involve a coordinated, comprehensive service that no one doctor or allied health professional could reasonably provide.

As the clinic evolved, our focus broadened, with the addition of many complementary specialty services. In October 2009, the clinic was renamed BJC Health to help reflect this.
