Debra Pittam

Debra Pittam I love taking photos of the beauty that is everywhere. Some good, some not, but the process of noticing and capturing is the same either way.

The fear of fearing the thing can be bigger than the thing we fear.

I dislike leeches. I mean, who doesn’t? I also have a significant and possibly irrational fear of being covered in them. Perhaps a bit more niche. When encountered in the past I have been known to strip in public for an inspection at the first sign of them.

On a recent walk by a river after rain (what was I thinking 🙄). One hour in and one to go, leeches in their numbers began to crawl up our boots and legs. We must have picked off 20 -30 each.

But we had to keep going and manage them. So we did and supported each other. It wasn’t nice (really not), but the fear, that I feared would be debilitating, was manageable. It reminds me that we are probably all more capable, reliant and stronger in hard moments than we perhaps believe we would be.

But I am never going for a bush-walk without a pot of salt in my bag ever again!

I follow many many women who are “out there doing things”. My socials are full to bursting with inspiring , difficult, outspoken and active women. They subsume the patriachal noise. For me, it’s important to see, every day, what women are saying and all the things that women are doing. It reminds we that if we each keep on doing something, no matter how small we can improve the lot if women everywhere in the end.

Same tree different days. The only certain thing in life, is that uncertainty and change are constants. It can help I think, to find something to connect to that is generally unchanging, or that is solid among the changes around it. I visit this tree often on my walks. It anchors and grounds me and gives me something to appreciate. Do you have an example?

Waiting in ED for a second infusion for cellulitis. The gift that lymphodema keeps giving! Looking through photos’s and quotes to pass the time. Photo’s are lovely memories and the quote is such wisdom 😊 ”I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.”

I love this quote. For me it conjures up possibilities, options, hopes and dreams. “Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.” Louisa May Alcott

I have recently remembered how lovely it is to lie on the grass and look up at the sky and I am trying to do it more. How about you?

Loved these waterfalls yesterday as I do this quote. It reminds me to beware of rigid thinking, and to keep playing in the grey. Also to keep doing yoga! What does it say to you? “There is a hidden message in every waterfall. It says, if you are flexible, falling will not hurt you.”

Thought of the day 😊 Joy can be fleeting making it important to notice it when it arrives and before it leaves. It probably happens more than we think. Try identifying tiny moments of joy across a day or a week. These moments of gold dust are known as glimmers.
