🚨 WARNING: GRAPHIC MEDICAL CONTENT 🚨

Intraoperative Example: Re**us Divarication

Re**us Divarication is a separation of the abdominal muscles that can occur after pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or increased abdominal pressure over time.

When the abdominal wall loses its tension and support, some patients may experience symptoms such as lower back discomfort or urinary incontinence. During surgery, the separation can be clearly seen, which helps explain why these functional symptoms may develop.

Compression garments play an important role in post-operative recovery.

They help manage swelling, support tissues as they heal, and reduce fluid buildup beneath the skin.

Dr Kwei provides tailored guidance on when and how long to wear compression garments to assist with comfort and ensure proper healing following body procedures.

A feeling of tightness is common after body procedures.

This sensation often occurs as swelling develops and the skin and underlying tissues adjust during the early stages of healing.

In most cases, the feeling gradually settles as inflammation decreases and the tissue relaxes.

However, if tightness increases, becomes painful, or is accompanied by other changes, patients are encouraged to contact the clinic for review.

08/12/2025

Abdominal separation, or diastasis recti, occurs when the connective tissue between the abdominal muscles stretches or weakens.

This can develop after pregnancy, significant weight changes, or repeated abdominal strain.

When the separation is more pronounced, procedures such as an abdominoplasty may be considered to restore muscle alignment and reinforce the abdominal wall.

During assessment, Dr Kwei evaluates the extent of separation, surrounding tissue health, and whether surgical repair is appropriate.

This mother of five, who previously had to roll to her side to get out of bed due to weaker core muscles, suffered from lower back pain and was unhappy with her lower abdominal roll, now reports significant improvement. Within the first week post-surgery, her back pain resolved, and after four weeks, her core felt significantly stronger. At 14 months, she is extremely happy with her results, continuing to see improvement in both core strength and abdominal appearance.

Three months post breast reduction + abdominoplasty.

Mother of four who maintains a strict fitness routine, attending the gym 5-6 times per week. Following a 12-month physiotherapy regimen aimed at addressing upper and lower back discomfort along with urinary incontinence, our patient experienced limited relief.

She also felt that the breasts were ptotic (saggy) after her pregnancy and wanted a reduction and a breast lift.

Subsequent to undergoing re**us divarication repair surgery and breast reduction/lift performed by Dr. Kwei, she observed significant improvement in her lower back and incontinence symptoms, as well as better profile to her breasts.
