Music therapy offers adults a way to reconnect — with themselves, with others and with what matters most. At Sound Expression, sessions are designed to support emotional wellbeing, confidence and social connection through the evidence-based use of music.
For many adults, music therapy becomes a space to regulate, express and find balance in daily life. Making music together isn’t just enjoyable — it activates several key neurochemicals that support wellbeing.
Playing music releases dopamine, which boosts motivation and mood, and endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers that bring feelings of joy and ease.
Making music with others can also stimulate the release of oxytocin, a hormone that promotes social bonding and trust.
In music therapy, these natural processes are guided intentionally to support emotional regulation and meaningful engagement.
David, a flautist, attends music therapy to maintain his mental health and wellbeing. With support from his music therapist Pete McDonald, he uses improvisation, drumming and familiar songs to lift mood, build confidence and connect with others.
