Our elite teams bridge the gap between clinical theory & neurodivergence—facilitating regulation, task persistence & educational support. Where Evidence-Based Practice Meets Educational Excellence. At Cornerstone Companions, we redefine Caninel-Assisted Support (CAS) through a holistic, trauma-informed, and neuro-affirming lens. We don’t just "visit"—we facilitate measurable shifts in a student’s ability to engage, learn, and thrive. Our Foundational Approach
Our practice is grounded in the empirical evidence of systematic reviews. We operate on the fundamental principle that for any child to learn, they must first be regulated. Our teams bridge the gap between clinical theory and classroom reality, providing the physiological and emotional scaffolding necessary for a neuro-affirming environment. We provide a holistic framework that integrates into Tier 1, 2, and 3 support structures:

Tier 1 (Universal): Enhancing classroom climate and providing co-regulation for the entire student body during high-stress periods. Tier 2 (Targeted): Small group interventions focusing on social-emotional skill building and task persistence. Tier 3 (Intensive): Individualized, trauma-informed support for students with complex sensory or emotional needs, including Level 4 ASD engagement. By stabilising the nervous system first, we unlock the potential for academic and social success across the entire school community. Expert Educational Support
We specialise in high-stakes educational environments, providing targeted interventions for:

Executive Functioning & Focus: Assisting students during NAPLAN and formal assessments to maintain a "ready-to-learn" state. Task Persistence: Using sensory redirection to help students overcome avoidance and move toward task completion. Neuro-Affirming Connection: Building bridges for students through non-verbal, non-judgmental partnership. Literacy Engagement: Boosting reading stamina and confidence through stabilised co-regulation. The Cornerstone Standard
The impact is driven by the synergy of the team. The Practitioners: Trained in trauma-informed care and neurodivergence, our handlers are skilled at reading subtle physiological cues to ensure every intervention is safe, ethical, and effective. The Canines: Our therapy dogs are trained to the highest international standards, possessing the specific skill sets required for intensive educational support. Our Commitment
We believe every learner deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated. By integrating elite therapy canines into the educational journey, we help students navigate their world with confidence and regulation.

At Cornerstone Companions, something as simple as making a friendship bracelet for a therapy dog is never just a craft activity.

It’s a purposeful, evidence-based intervention grounded in current research. 🐾✨

Recently, students created a bracelet for Saige, supported by her Canine Practitioner Maggie—and what unfolded was so much more than creativity.

So what’s really happening in moments like this?

💛 Connection becomes easier
With Saige beside them, students naturally begin to talk, share, and connect. The canine presence reduces pressure and helps social interaction feel safe and accessible.

💛 Social & emotional skills grow
Designing a bracelet for Saige encourages empathy and perspective-taking.
At the same time, the relationship with both Saige and Maggie strengthens a sense of trust, safety, and emotional regulation.

💛 Motivation increases
Tasks that can feel challenging suddenly have purpose.
Students stay engaged—not just to finish—but to create something meaningful for a companion they care about.

💛 Calm bodies, ready minds
The rhythm of bead threading, combined with Saige’s calm presence, helps reduce stress and support regulation—creating the foundation for learning and participation.

In short…

They weren’t just making a bracelet for Saige.
They were building connection, practicing regulation, and growing in confidence. 🛡️✨

I’m really not too sure who has the most fun when supporting at carnivals?? 🤔

30/03/2026

When the starter pistol fires and the crowd roars, a school sporting carnival can feel exciting… but also overwhelming.

For many students, it’s a high-noise, high-pressure environment that can trigger stress, anxiety, and shutdown.

At Cornerstone Companions, we’re not there just for “moral support.”
We bring purposeful, evidence-based support that helps students stay calm, connected, and ready to participate. 🐾🏟️

What does that look like?

✨ Calmer bodies
Spending time with a therapy dog can help lower stress hormones like cortisol—supporting students to move out of “fight or flight” and back into a regulated state.

✨ Safe social connection
Our dogs offer a non-judgmental presence, helping students who feel overwhelmed or isolated reconnect with others in a gentle, supported way.

✨ Emotional regulation
We provide a steady, calming anchor so students can stay engaged in the day instead of withdrawing.

✨ Focus & confidence
For students with ADHD or sensory sensitivities, our teams help reduce overwhelm—so they can focus, persist, and take part with confidence.

More than a visit…

Sporting carnivals are the perfect opportunity for:
✔️ Whole-group (Tier 1) support
✔️ Targeted (Tier 2) intervention

Whether it’s helping a whole house group feel “ready to compete” or supporting one student at the starting line, our practitioners bridge the gap between theory and real-life moments.

Because when a child is regulated,
they’re not just watching…

✨ they’re participating.

🐾 Why Bus Training Matters for Our CSC Canines 🐾

For our CSC canines, learning to travel calmly and confidently on public transport isn’t just a “nice to have” — it’s an essential life skill.

Bus environments can be unpredictable: loud noises, sudden movements, unfamiliar people, and changing spaces. Without the right preparation, this can be overwhelming for even the most well-adjusted dog.

Through intentional, gradual bus training, our canines learn to:
🚌 Remain calm in busy, high-stimulation environments
🚌 Safely navigate entry, exits, and confined spaces
🚌 Build trust and confidence alongside their handler
🚌 Generalise their training beyond controlled settings

This training directly supports their role as regulation partners — especially for the young people they support. When a canine can remain steady and grounded, they become a reliable anchor in moments of stress or dysregulation.

And of course… we’re also learning the social rules of the road — including a simple but powerful one:
🙏 Always thank the bus driver.

At CSC, we don’t just train dogs — we prepare them for real life, real environments, and real impact.

Because confidence on a bus today can mean access to the community tomorrow. 💛

Coco Connections The Science of the “Settle”: Why Deep Pressure Matters in Early Years 💤🐾

Rest time isn’t just a break in the schedule—it’s a vital period for sensory integration. But for many children, especially in the Early Years, “switching off” from a busy classroom is a complex neurological challenge.

In today’s , we’re looking at the transformative power of Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT) to facilitate a calm, settled state.

When Coco rests her weight intentionally against a child on their bed, she isn’t just “cuddling.” She is providing firm, consistent tactile input that acts as a biological “off switch” for overstimulation:

✅ Nervous System Shift: DPT helps move a child from a state of high alert (Sympathetic) to a “rest and digest” state (Parasympathetic).
✅ Cortisol Regulation: This grounded pressure helps lower stress hormones, signaling to the brain that it is safe to drift into a deep, restorative sleep.
✅ Sensory Anchoring: For neurodivergent children, Coco provides a physical boundary that helps them feel secure and “held” in their space.

The Foundation of the Team:
This level of engagement is far from a “pet visit.” It is a precise intervention made possible by:

Sam: A trained Neurodivergent & Trauma-Informed Canine Therapy Practitioner.

Coco: A therapy canine trained to the highest level of reliability and sensitivity.

Sam carefully monitors the child’s physiological cues—breathing and heart rate—to ensure the intervention is perfectly timed. Watching a child who usually struggles to settle finally achieve deep sleep is the ultimate evidence of a regulated nervous system at rest.

Maisy Moments- It’s Not a “Visit.” It’s a Clinical Intervention. 🐾🧠

When you see a student resting a hand on Maisy or sitting quietly by her side, you aren’t just seeing a “cute pet moment.” You are witnessing a sophisticated neurological shift.

Recently, Maisy and Prue have been working within Support Units and across mainstream classrooms to facilitate high-stakes transitions. Here is the science behind what is actually happening:

🔹 Breaking the Barrier: For our Level 4 ASD students who have historically avoided engagement, Maisy acts as a “bridge.” Through Prue’s trauma-informed lens, we move at the student’s pace, using Maisy to provide a safe, non-verbal anchor that finally allows for a connection to form.

🔹 The NAPLAN Anchor: During the stress of Year 3 and 5 assessments, Maisy provides Physiological Regulation. Her presence lowers cortisol and stabilizes heart rates, moving students out of “fight or flight” and back into their “executive functioning” brain so they can focus on the page.

🔹 Task Redirection: When a student is avoiding work, Prue uses Maisy as a motivational partner. This isn’t “distraction”—it’s sensory redirection. By engaging with Maisy, the student’s nervous system settles, making the transition back to the task feel safe rather than overwhelming.

🔹 Deep Literacy Focus: In reading sessions, Maisy provides a “non-judgmental audience,” which evidence shows significantly increases reading stamina and confidence in neurodivergent learners.

The Foundation:
This impact is only possible because of the team’s specific skill set.

Prue: A trained Neurodivergent & Trauma-Informed Canine Therapy Practitioner.

Maisy: A therapy canine trained to the highest level of task-specific reliability.

We aren’t just dropping in for a pat. We are here to facilitate regulated, inclusive, and effective learning environments.

Today was a beautiful celebration of culture, connection, and calm 🌿

Remi had the privilege of joining the Little Explorers as they welcomed a parent who shared their Lebanese culture for Harmony Week. The children were captivated—exploring traditional foods, asking curious questions, and even having a turn playing the drums.

In the midst of all the excitement, Remi was a steady, grounding presence. Several children chose to sit close, gently patting or leaning into Remi, helping them feel safe, regulated, and fully engaged in the experience.

Moments like these remind us how powerful connection can be—supporting children not just to participate, but to truly feel a sense of belonging 💛
