You’ve heard of the fight, flight, or freeze responses. It’s how our nervous system, along with our body, emotions and thoughts respond to situations and challenges to keep us alive.

But sometimes, the nervous system can REMAIN in a chronic state of defence and perceive threats or danger even when there is none. This affects us globally – impacting how we feel, think, behave and connect with others.

This is where the Safe and Sound Protocol comes in.

Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges (author of the Polyvagal Theory) based on decades of research, this protocol uses music to REGULATE and NOURISH the nervous system.

This will be helpful for you if:
〰️ You experience anxiety or lots of stress
〰️ You find it difficult to focus day to day
〰️ You experience difficultly connecting or engaging with others.

If you’re interested in learning or want to have a FREE no-obligation consultation to see if this is right for you, just book in via our contact page or email hello@somaticbalance.com.au with the subject - SSP Consultation.

t’s a rare thing to just BE.

Often we find ourselves doing - responding, reacting, thinking and planning. But what if we took the time to just be? To stay with something, to allow it without acting, without responding?

What if we chose not to move away or move towards, to not have to figure out the next step or the next breath? Explore and feel how this sits in your mind, your body and your emotions and how you can bring the practise of simply ‘being’ to other parts of your life.

We look forward to simply being with you :)

Is there a story or a situation you’re going over and over again in your mind? Are you trying to uncover, solve, fix or find the meaning behind something that happened or something someone has said?

Sometimes we can get caught up in the storylines present in our lives. We go over and over them but it only leaves us more confused. It can actually be helpful in these moments to just take a step back.

Leave the story behind. Observe the patterns they may be reflecting and maybe you just might get a clearer view or shine some light on what you’re experiencing. Interested to learn how you can practise stepping away?

Life, emotions and moments can sometimes carry us away from being present, and finding ourselves again or coming back to ourselves can be a process.

If you’d like to explore what it can feel like when we’re not present and practise the process of coming back, this somatic exploration is for you.

Move, feel and understand what presence can feel like in your body and how you can always come back to it. Follow this link to learn more: https://bit.ly/2FGO7O9

As always, if you feel you require additional support, want to deepen your practice or have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.

Dr Stephen Porges is the author of The Polyvagal Theory - a collection of evolutionary, neuroscientific and psychological claims pertaining to the role of the vagus nerve in emotion regulation, social connection and fear response.

He shares that there are 3 main pathways in our nervous system, each one bringing and supporting a different strategy to guarantee our survival. Some of these pathways support defensive behaviours, while others support calm, relaxation, and connecting to those around us.

In our latest meditation, we’ll be exploring the path that supports a calm state, one that allows us to look at those around from a place of connection, compassion, and safety.

Everything has a bright side and a shadow side. 🌓
Polarities exist - including within ourselves.

But it doesn't mean having to constantly judge or label things as 'good' or bad'.

In one of our latest explorations, we look at what it could be like if we could observe ourselves and our lives from a point of view of no conflict?

As Alan Watts says, “Really, the fundamental, ultimate mystery - the only thing you need to know to understand the deepest metaphysical secrets - is this: that for every outside there is an inside and for every inside there is an outside, and although they are different, they go together.”

We invite you to give yourself the space and opportunity to try out this non-judgemental exploration via this link: https://bit.ly/2PCuSqp

Feel free to share with us what comes up for you!

If your emotions and self-talk from today were turned into a meal, what would it look or taste like? Would it be a thick stew of anger and self-doubt? A light and nourishing soup of trust and self-kindness? A variety platter filled with surprise, joy, fear and confusion?

We go about our days with an endless train of thoughts and emotions. Sometimes, without realising, we may be indulging in some thoughts more than others. For example, someone may have said something hurtful a year ago and we are still choosing to indulge in the anger, thinking of all the comebacks we could have said. We all do it at times but it really does not serve us.

In our last newsletter, we designed an exploration that helps us see which emotions and thoughts we may be overindulging in so we can bring awareness to their purpose - do they nourish or drain us? The idea is to get clear on what ‘ingredients’ (i.e: thoughts and self-talk) we want to nourish ourselves with, and how, with practice every day, we can get better at cooking up a satisfying and kind bowl of emotional nourishment.

🗣️Would you speak to your friends and the people you love, the way you spoke to yourself? Are you a harsh critic or your biggest cheerleader?

Without realising, our inner dialogue can shape our reality and the relationship we have with ourselves.

The amazing this is, YOU have the power to shape and change that.
You can CHOOSE to be kind and intentional with yourself.
Gentle and forgiving.
Allowing SPACE instead of constriction.

Begin exploring your self-talk and learn how you can create a dialogue and environment that’s supportive of YOU - check out our exploration via this link 👉🏼 https://bit.ly/3enXZHW

The body holds more wisdom that we might be aware of, and each part connects us different learnings and discoveries. For example, the heart is all about passion while the gut, intuition. 💭

In one of our latest explorations, we connect to the wisdom of the body by dropping in to different parts. It is inspired by Suzanna Scurlock who has over 30 years of experience working with different somatic approaches.

This is for anyone who’s learning what they’re TRULY PASSIONATE about - what moves you?
For those who want to CONNECT TO THEIR INTUITION. Those who need the ENERGY to follow their hearts and those wanting to LEARN HOW TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP.

Tune in and listen close to the wisdom, learnings and healing your body has to offer. Join us now here: https://bit.ly/2Dt0b4e

A NEW offering from us 👇
https://somaticbalance.com.au/modalities/ssp/

We’ve been working behind the scenes - learning, reading and exploring - and we’re excited to share a new intervention we’ve recently experienced!

It is called The Safe and Sound Protocol and we have personally just gone through it ourselves. It designed to regulate the nervous system using music and it involves listening to 5-hours of music that has been processed specifically to retune the nervous system to introduce a sense of safety and the ability to socially engage.

It is non-invasive and has worked for many including those with childhood trauma and Autism Spectrum Condition.

I’m currently only offering it to practitioners before I begin with clients. You will definitely hear from me when it is available for sessions with clients!

If you are a practitioner who is interested, or have more questions, please reach out to schedule a free-of-charge consultation so we can get together (or do a Zoom call) and discuss this in more detail. Drop us a message here or send us an email at hello@somaticbalance.com.au.
