We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance by the Biennale Danza 2026, the dance division of La Biennale di Venezia, becoming the first Australians to receive the esteemed award since its inception.

The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded during the 20th International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Venice from 17 July – 1 August this year. Our company will travel to Venice to receive the award, where we will also present the European premiere of Frances Rings’ seminal work, Terrain.

“This prestigious award recognises all those who have come before me at Bangarra; our dancers, Uncle Rob Bryant, Cheryl Stone and Carole Y. Johnson who founded the company, our premiere First Nations training institution NAISDA - the National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Association, and Stephen Page who led Bangarra for thirty years, working alongside his brothers Russell and David Page”- Frances Rings, Bangarra Artistic Director and Co-CEO

Our Story

Movement has been the glue that has helped me hold my life together. It has added to the joy when times have been good, and provided a way to find balance when life has been challenging. I have watched with sadness as my grandmother lost her quality of life because of lack of mobility, and I have felt how the quality of my life improved as I worked my way back to pain free movement and fitness after injury. It is my goal to help every client who walks through our doors, to find pain free movement, a way to achieve their goals and a way to sustain or improve the quality of their lives.

As a passionate advocate for the fine art of dance, it would be my absolute joy and delight to use my 23 years experience of teaching dance at DJAZZEX dance and Pilates, and many years experience working as professional dancer prior to that (no I’m not going to tell you how old I am), to assist those who have the fire burning in their bellies to be “the dance”.
