Matt did something pretty special on the weekend.

He took on the Backyard Ultra at Heffron Park in Maroubra.

If you haven’t seen one before, the format is simple - every hour on the hour runners start another lap. Miss the start of the next lap and you’re done.

Matt just kept showing up to the start line.

By the time it was over he had run 120.6km in 18 hours

That’s basically three marathons in one day.

During the week you’ll see Matt coaching sessions at 6X, helping members with their programs or running classes… then on the weekend he casually goes and runs 120km around the park.

We’re incredibly proud of him.

A big shout out as well to his support crew ( ) and especially his partner Caoimhe, who were there between every lap making sure he was ready to head back out again. In these ultra events the crew play a huge role and they did an amazing job.

If you see Matt in the gym this week make sure you give him a high five.

Also, if this has you thinking about getting into running, Matt runs our RunSTRONG session every Wednesday at 6am where we work on pacing, technique and building running fitness.

With events like the Mother’s Day Classic coming up soon, it’s a great time to get started.
