A full weekend of surf, sport and service ahead for our Wanda members!

Our boat crews are hitting the waves at South Maroubra for Round 2 of the Sydney Branch Surf Boat Series. They will be joined by our U8 competitors at the South Maroubra U8 Carnival. Elsewhere, juniors and seniors take on the water and the sand at Round 1 of the Sydney Water Series at Warilla–Barrack Point SLSC.

Back home, Bronze Medallion and IRB training is continuing, Lifesaving CPR proficiencies are being completed, our Nippers program is buzzing, and our patrol teams are on the beach keeping the community safe.

A big weekend for our big-hearted club — go Wanda!

Wanda Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1946, after World War II, by a group of returned servicemen who came together to patrol our beach.

Today, we honour the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women who have served. Their legacy lives on in our club’s story — and in the pride we carry every day wearing our colours: Army Red, Air Force Blue, and Navy Blue.

Lest we forget.

A fun day of racing at the Cronulla Short Course Carnival hosted by Cronulla SLSC on Saturday!

The racing was hot, the weather even hotter — lucky we had some shade under our brand-new tents!

A huge thanks to Martinus Rail and Masterton Homes for the new tents, and to Ace Gutters and Tradies for keeping our team looking the part in their sharp new 80th uniforms.

Wanda competitors were out in force last weekend — taking on the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series at Wauchope–Bonny Hills and hitting the sand at North Steyne for Round 1 of the 2025/26 Beach Stormers Series. There were some fantastic early-season results and strong performances all round!

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we’ve got a big contingent heading down to Cronulla for the Cronulla SLSC Short Course Carnival — good luck to all our competitors, and enjoy the racing!

Wanda SLSC, Sutherland Shire Lifeguards, Surf Life Saving NSW, and Swim Brothers have been working together over the past four years to promote beach, ocean, and water safety among CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities.

During the excitement of the Tradies Wanda One Carnival, another milestone was achieved — seven members from the latest cohort of Wanda’s CALD program proudly joined their first patrol at Wanda.

A highlight of the day at our One Club Carnival — our adaptive events were a real highlight and brought smiles all around!

It was fantastic to see participants of all abilities racing together and embodying the true spirit of surf lifesaving — inclusion, teamwork, and fun on the beach. Events like this remind us what our One Club community is all about.

Congratulations to Jett van der Wallen (South Maroubra SLSC), winner of the Brooks Marc Leabeater Memorial Open Men’s Beach Sprint for the 2nd year running— an outstanding performance in one of the most meaningful events on our carnival program.

This race holds a very special place in our club’s heart, honouring the memory of the late Marc Leabeater — a former Australian Champion beach sprinter and much-loved Wanda member. The event celebrates the passion, mateship, and spirit that Marc brought to our club and remains a deeply personal moment for his family and our club each year.
