**"My Child Thinks They're Not Smart..." 💔**
As a parent, it’s heartbreaking to see your child struggle with reading and writing, especially when they start to doubt themselves. Many children with dyslexia feel like they’re “not as smart” as their peers, which can take a toll on their confidence and self-esteem.
But here’s the truth: **Dyslexia is not a reflection of intelligence.** In fact, many children with dyslexia are incredibly bright, creative, and capable—they just need the right support to thrive.
If your child is feeling discouraged, here are a few ways you can help:
✅ **Recognize their strengths** – Celebrate what they do well, whether it’s problem-solving, creativity, sports, or a love for hands-on learning.
✅ **Remind them they’re not alone** – Many successful people, from entrepreneurs to scientists to artists, have dyslexia. Let them know they are in great company!
✅ **Use positive language** – Instead of focusing on what’s “hard,” talk about how they are learning in a different way.
✅ **Get the right support** – A proper assessment can help identify your child’s unique learning needs and the best strategies to support them.
At the Literacy and Learning Centre, our special interest is in completing assessments that provide clarity and direction, helping children with dyslexia build confidence and reach their full potential. We also provide therapy to help children build confidence and resilience. If you’re concerned about your child’s learning journey, we’re here to help. 💙
