So we are terribly sad to say that in the interest of the health of our local community, we are cancelling all upcoming Music For Trees shows at both the Shakey and the Strawbs until the dust settles.
Over the last 6 months these gigs have contributed to the incomes of over 100 artists, and we want to continue to support them through this difficult time. So, the legends from Surry Hills Creative Precinct, Sydney Of Sydney, and JJ Splice have banded together to build this live-streaming platform so that the show can go on and we can continue to pay artists. Please tune in this Thursday to catch Jesse Jesse L. Redwing, Kane Muir, KTB and Frankie Artdrum tear it up as they usually do.

Surry Hills Live has evolved… into SURRY HILLS LIVE STREAMING!

In response to concern about public safety at live music venues during the pandemic, The Surry Hills Creative Precinct and Music for Trees will now take all remaining shows online for an incredible new LIVE experience - and you won’t even need to leave your couch.

Simply head to Surry Hills Live page and tune in from 7:30pm. There’ll be as much of the same line up of bands as possible, there’ll be special guests - and beer! You’ll be able to comment and interact as if we were all in the same room together.

This will be a crazy / fun new experience and we can’t wait to have you along on the ride!!

Not only are these guys one of the best Aussie rock bands around, they’re also legit legends - when they heard the Music For Trees bass amp had blown, they DONATED one so the tunes could continue and other bands could play. Come and see the real thing after midnight this Thursday

My Sauce Good and Jesse Redwing will be bouncing some awesome 🎶 frequencies off the old gorgeous tiles at both The Shakespeare and Strawberry Hotels tomorrow night as part of Thursdays Live. Cody Dillon will be taking the late shift on the decks. 7pm-5am 🤪. It's free and it plants lots of 🌳🌳!!

This Thursday, our Surry Hills mini music fest will be a real adventure in sounds and styles.
Kicking off at the Shakespeare we have alt-country rockstar Mr Cody Dillon and band, then down at the Strawberry Hills Trevor Brown is back from his European tour and will be leading the Gypsy Groove Sound System. DJ KTB will then take us on a disco journey into the early hours.

We only have until October 8 to make submissions on the
Summary Offences and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2019 (the "dangerous devices bill"). This bill proposes unnecessary and vilifying legislation, based on completely unproven evidence about lock on devices that are crucial tools of peaceful protest.

It's vital that we demonstrate there is no social license for new laws designed to vilify peaceful protesters.

Who can make a submission?
- ANYONE! Any group, organisation or individual who wants to.

How do I do it?
- A submission can be anything from a 2 sentence email to a 100 page in depth analysis. You can use content from our information sheet/template submission, and simply add a couple of sentences to ensure it's considered a separate submission.

Why should I?
- Let's be real, the government is going to do whatever it likes, they clearly aren't all that interested in what everyday people have to say. BUT, that doesn't mean it isn't important to demonstrate public opposition. In fact it is crucial that legislation that strips away civil liberties and demonises peaceful protesters in particularly is always met with overwhelming condemnation. As with all legislation that limits rights, people who are already marginalised and disadvantaged within our so-called justice system will be hit hardest. So if you're a person with privilege, please take 5 minutes out of your day to tell the Queensland Government that you oppose these laws.

This document gives you a briefing on what the laws propose, information about the submission process, and a template submission. You are welcome to copy and paste any/all the words from the template to make writing your own submission as easy as possible.

Did you catch Mick Daley at Shakey Sounds last month? Not only is he is prolific and brilliant songwriter, troubadour, bandleader and journalist Mick is a frontline activist currently part of the ongoing Adani blockade in Queensland. For those of us who know, love and respect him this intimate clip showcases Mick in his element; in the bush armed with only a guitar....the song speaks for itself and to all of us with hearts and minds.
