Calcium requirements increase 30% once a woman hits menopause. For women who are lactose intolerant or find it difficult to eat four serves of dairy and dairy alternatives a day, fish with edible bones are a great way to boost your calcium intake - plus you get lean protein and long chain omega three fatty acids that benefit cardiovascular and brain health. They’re also quick to cook. For lunch I tossed them in a hot pan with extra virgin olive oil, chilli and garlic and served them fresh parsley, lemon, olives and roasted capsicum on toast. 😋
