Eva and Amanda were connected as part of our Links Volunteering program 🤍

Through the Links program, volunteers are matched one-on-one with an older person in our community, providing companionship and friendship.

We love these photos, because they really capture just how special this program is.

The stories of Holocaust Survivors do not just exist in history.
They don’t just exist in memory.

They are the stories of our families, our grandparents, our parents.
They are the stories that have shaped us, and continue to shape us, even when they have been left unsaid.

As the last generation to live among Survivors, the horror and pain of the Holocaust do not feel distant. However, to ensure remembrance continues, we must remain deeply committed to keeping their stories alive. Jewish history has always survived because of a relentless commitment to memory, to never forget what we have endured.

As we mark 81 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, remember the 6 million Jewish lives stolen under the N**i regime, and honour the Survivors who carry the weight of immeasurable tragedy, we are confronted with the reality that this hate does not remain in the past. The attacks across NSW and the attack at Bondi remind every Australian that when antisemitism is tolerated, violence follows, and we cannot allow the atrocities of history to be repeated.

If you need support today, please call 1800 979 676.

Today, on the National Day of Mourning, we honour the 15 innocent lives tragically stolen in the horrific antisemitic attack at Bondi Beach on December 14. Their names and stories will never be forgotten.

On this day, we bear witness to the deep grief felt by the families whose lives will be forever and irrevocably changed. We hold everyone who was at Bondi Beach that day in our hearts. And we open our arms to every person in our community who needs to be held. Our support is available, always.

The theme of today’s commemoration, chosen by the Chabad community, is “light will win”. It is a poignant reminder that, as a community, we always find the light in the darkness. In fact, we create the light so that we can all find our way through.

For anyone who has the strength within them right now, we encourage you to carry out a Mitzvah in the coming weeks. With every act of kindness and generosity, we will rebuild, together.

If you need support, even if you don’t know what support you need, do not hesitate to reach out – call us on 1800 979 676.

This morning Janelle Saffin - Member for Lismore and I visited JewishCare NSW at their Woolahra headquarters to attend their National Day of Mourning event.

Care workers are the fabric of our society, and that is especially true in a moment of crisis.

The more than 800 staff and volunteers at JewishCare NSW have been supporting the state's Jewish community for over 85 years, but never before with the unparalleled intensity of the last month.

So today I wanted to come here and say thank you. Thank you for all that you've done to wrap around and support your community.
