Team Australia II

Team Australia II In 2017, Team Australia will be taking on the worlds best endurance athletes in the iconic Race Across America. They have set themselves a big goal.

In 2015, a group of Australians took on some of the world's best endurance athletes in the iconic Race Across America. With the tag 'the worlds toughest bike race' it didn't disappoint as Team Australia rode through the highs and lows on their epic journey. After 4800kms and countless challenges they finished third in the 4 man open division breaking the Australian record along the way. In 2017, Team Australia is back together. Inspired by the 1983 Americas Cup campaign when a boat named Australia 2 beat the Americans in their own backyard, the 2017 campaign will named Team Australia 2 and the team have set themselves a very big goal!

Take a bow Allan Jefferson. It all started back in 2015 when you crewed for Team Australia. 2 years later you raced with us in a 4 man team and finished second. A further 2 years on was your first solo attempt. 2019 wasn’t successful but you never gave up. 2022 was your time. Not only have you completed the worlds toughest bike race solo and won your age group. But wait for it… Jeffo, you are the OVERALL WINNER of RAAM 2022 SOLO! The first Australian to win the race since Gerry Tatrai in the 90s. You’re in rare company and we couldn’t think of a guy more deserving of this achievement. Enjoy all the accolades that come your way. We are proud to call you one of ours. 👊🇦🇺🍻

We just had a special moment at the perfectly named Jefferson City time station 33. Team Australia solo riders Alan Bradley and Allan Jefferson met on course for the first time after Jeffo DNFed due to serious complications and a stint in hospital. Such is the love and respect for each other, the embrace and support says it all. You can’t buy this sort of camaraderie in a team. All they wanted was for each other to finish. 💚💛

Such is the feirocity of Race Across America, Alan Bradley is the only Australian left in the field. Today we lost our Perth based Superwoman, Sabine Bird. Sabine is an awesome competitor and gave this campaign absolutely everything. You’ll be back! Be proud of your performance and come join us in Annapolis for the afterparty with the Beast and Jeffo.

ALAN BRADLEY UPDATE
Montezuma, Kansas
June 16, 2019, 5:25 pm, EDT

We received an informative update on Alan Bradley (Australia) from his crew chief, Ryan Anderson. Bradley, a 55-year-old Global Chief Commercial Officer for a large international company in the marine support industry, is racing in the age 50-59 category. He’s currently in third in his category.

Here’s what the crew chief had to share.
“Currently in Montezuma KS, he’s feeling good after overcoming some real difficulties on the Cucharas Pass (breathing, loss of power, etc). We had a good night last night and have just laid him down for a rest. He’s putting in 90-minute rests when fatigue starts to play games, but his turnaround after these rests is amazing with him out there for approximately 15 - 18hrs showing good power for the first 12.
“We have his entire family on the crew and this is proving to be a great decision with no shortness of inspiration. We are also receiving huge support through our page where you may find pictures when choosing to profile him.
“We're looking forward to moving through the eastern states en route to City Dock!!

We have some bad news about our larrikin superstar Al Jefferson. He will bounce back stronger than ever.

12 months in the making, our two Team Australia warriors are now in Oceanside as the RAAM 2019 countdown is on. 2 days and counting. These pair will ride solo for 5000km in approx 10 days. We’ll keep you posted on their progress through the race but expect big things from these two rookies. They are pure class and certain to make a few of the experienced RAAM riders very nervous. Smash it boys! Alan Bradley Al Jefferson

Congratulations to Ultra-distance superstar, Christoph Strasser who just broke the world 24 hour TT record. 913km!!! But what makes this so impressive is it was done outdoors in the elements. The previous record which he also held was set in a protected velodrome where conditions are fast and predictable. He is simply the benchmark for which all others strive to meet.

For several months there has been talk of some big news coming from the Team Australia RAAM camp. We are pleased to confirm all the rumours are true. There will be a Team Australia rider doing RAAM solo next year!! I know what you are thinking... wow! But it gets better... not 1 but 2 of our riders will be taking on this mind-blowing challenge of 5,000kms solo in 10 days.

Let me introduce you to the twin crazies, Alan Bradley and Al Jefferson. They are both running seperate campains until they hit the finish line in Annapolis and then Im sure there will be one hell of a celebration.

Both these guys are incredible athletes but what makes them so special is their mental toughness and ability to spend days in the hurt locker. Most solo riders, particularly in their rookie year, just enter to finish. But Im sure they wont mind us saying they are both a strong chance for a podium at this iconic race.

We wish them both luck and will keep everyone updated on their progress both leading up and during the 2019 race.

It’s a dark day for Team Australia. Our 2017 crew member Dave Watkins was out riding his bike this morning and suffered a heart attack. He has passed away. Our thoughts are with his son Adam (who was also part of the 2017 team) and their entire family. Dave will be missed by us all. RIP Mate.
