We are proud to share that Jane Wright, one of our dedicated Aboriginal case workers, has been formally recognised in Parliament for her outstanding contribution to the Supporting and Securing Tenancies program in the Port Macquarie region.
Jane’s work has been instrumental in supporting Aboriginal communities and driving positive outcomes through the SST initiative. Her recognition is a testament to the passion and commitment she brings to her role every day.
Mr. Robert Dwyer MP member for Port Macquarie, highlighted Jane’s tireless efforts to help community members maintain or access housing in a challenging market, her leadership in initiatives such as Homelessness Week and NAIDOC Week, and her unwavering commitment to advocacy and support.
“Jane leads by example with humility, kindness, and a genuine desire to make a difference,” he said. “Her ability to understand community needs and negotiate in challenging environments has made her a respected and admired figure within her workplace and community.”
When asked about the recognition, Jane shared, “I had no idea this was happening, and I was lost for words. I love helping people. I love my job and the outcomes we get.”
She also spoke about the importance of cultural representation in housing support. “It’s really important to have Aboriginal case workers because sometimes Aboriginal people aren’t comfortable talking to other people. With me, they can tell me anything. It’s normal in our culture to look after family. To know there’s an Aboriginal case worker in your specific office where you can go and request that – not a lot of companies have that. I think we’re so lucky.”
Jane also reminded us of the work still ahead: “I think a lot still has to be done within Aboriginal housing support.”
We couldn’t agree more. Please join us in congratulating Jane on this incredible achievement. Her success reflects the values we stand for and the impact we strive to make across the organisation.
