Did you know that the learning profile of a student with Down syndrome is unique and deeply individual?

Understanding how students with Down syndrome learn can completely change the way we support them in classrooms and at home.

Whether you’re new to teaching students with Down syndrome, a parent who is curious about the learning profile of a student with Down syndrome, or an educator looking to refresh and deepen your understanding, our Teaching With Insight workshop unpacks what really supports learning.

Together, we’ll look at the learning profile of students with Down syndrome and what helps them thrive, building understanding that supports both confidence and connection.

Date: Monday 9th February
Time: 11am and 3:30pm
Format: Online
Cost: Free

Our Congratulations Initiative Fortnightly Online Catch UP! is returning for 2026, and we would love to welcome new families to join us.

This free, online catch up is for families with a baby aged 0 to 2 years who has Down syndrome. It is a relaxed and supportive space for parents, carers and grandparents to connect, share experiences and get to know our Congratulations Initiative team.

We also occasionally welcome special guest presenters to talk about topics relevant to early years and family life.

The best part is that it is online, so you can join from anywhere across NSW, cuppa in hand.

We are really looking forward to continuing this space in 2026 for new families to connect, feel supported and learn about upcoming workshops, events and services available through Down Syndrome NSW.

Bass High School Scores with Western Sydney Wanderers Experience

On 26 November 2025, Bass High School was crowned top fundraising school in the Down Syndrome NSW Lots of Socks Competition. Students and teachers enjoyed a 90-minute behind-the-scenes experience at Western Sydney Wanderers FC, including a private training session and a guided tour of Wanderers Football Park.

A big thank you to Scott Lockie, Sue Jradi-Hamade, and everyone who made the day possible. Congratulations to Bass High School for their incredible fundraising efforts and for supporting Down Syndrome NSW!

As the school year begins, many educators are welcoming students they may be teaching for the first time — including students with Down syndrome and broader intellectual disability.

DSNSW’s Teaching with Insight workshop is designed especially for educators who are new to supporting students with Down syndrome or intellectual disability, or who want to build their confidence and understanding.

The workshop explores:
• the learning profile of a student with Down syndrome
• practical strategies for supporting behaviour and regulation
• clear, respectful approaches to communication
• inclusive supports that work in the classroom and on the playground

This session is practical, strengths-based, and grounded in what we see working in schools across NSW.

Teaching with Insight is suitable for teachers, learning support staff, school leaders, SLSOs, and anyone passionate about supporting students with additional needs in an informed, authentic way.

Date: Monday 9th February
Times: 11am and 3:30pm
Format: Online
Cost: Free

Flashback to an incredible achievement!

Our Platinum Partners, Fugen, raised over $79,000 for Down Syndrome NSW by taking on the Cole Classic, and we’re still feeling the impact of their amazing effort!

Thanks to this support, we’ve been able to reach over 20 schools in regional communities, delivering tailored, in-person assistance to educators working with students with Down syndrome. These visits go beyond a single moment. They’re the beginning of ongoing, meaningful support that helps create inclusive classrooms where every student can thrive.

Got a personal challenge coming up? Whether it's a run, swim, hike or something unique, why not make it even more meaningful by fundraising for Down Syndrome NSW?

Send us a DM or email partnerships@downsyndromensw.org.au to get started.
Together, we can create a more inclusive future, one challenge at a time.

Learning new ways to tell our story
As a small not-for-profit, we’re always looking for innovative ways to showcase the incredible things our community is doing and to highlight the programs and services that support people with Down syndrome across NSW.

That’s why we’re so grateful to Vidzero for hosting an in-person “How to Film on Your Phone” session with our team. Building these skills is a big step forward in how we share stories, celebrate achievements, and amplify the voices of our community.

A huge thank you as well to Campari Group for generously providing the meeting space and helping make this session possible.

Together, we’re building confidence, capability, and connection, one story at a time

Flashback to World Down Syndrome Day!

At i STEAM Ahead Early Learning Centre, students and staff came together to celebrate Lots of Socks Day in honour of student Leo, a day filled with bubbles, music, colour and love!

Leo’s mum Reggie shared:
"The outpouring of love and care we received is truly overwhelming. It’s incredible to see how small acts of kindness can make such a big difference. Whether the donations were big or small, the real power lies in the future we are building together, one filled with hope, love, and inclusion."

Juliana from i STEAM Ahead Early Learning Centre said:
"The children may not fully understand what was happening while we were blowing bubbles, singing, and having fun, but I’m sure one day they’ll remember that they were celebrating life, just like the rest of us."

Thank you, i Steam Ahead, for showing us all the true meaning of community.
If you wish to host a Losts of Socks day send us a DM and we will send you all the information you need.
