some helpful ideas for relationships - as aspirations and practices

Anyone, no matter your attachment style, can form a secure-functioning relationship. Secure-functioning relationships are relationships in which both partners agree to operate according to principles of fairness, sensitivity, and justice. Here are a few characteristics we see in such partnerships.

exquisite invitation

INTIMATE INVITATION

You forget
how, even when
you were stuck,
and without faith,
held back
and afraid to move
even a little,
you could still be like
the beauty
we see in winter ice,
just
beginning to
break and flow.

You forget
how you once
saw so clearly
the brave outline
of a single leaf.

How the stream
of clouds in the sky
seemed to run
right through you,

and the sun on your skin
seemed to pass
right through
to some
inner complexion.

And because
after all this time
you have lived
for so long without faith
in your own joys
and your own grief,

You live daily,
saying ‘love’
as if it were
still far away.

Put down
your heavy burden
and rest
from the hard,
every day labour
of not hurting,
or not feeling,
or not hearing,
or not saying
or seeing.

Stop keeping
the tears at bay,

give it all up,
just come home.

"We were made to enjoy music, to enjoy beautiful sunsets, to enjoy looking at the billows of the sea and to be thrilled with a rose that is bedecked with dew. Human beings are actually created for the transcendent, for the sublime, for the beautiful, for the truthful, and all of us are given the task of trying to make this world a little more hospitable to these beautiful things." Rest In Peace, Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

We are not feeling our feelings in order to get rid of them. We're feeling them because that's the process that's happening right now. I'm not looking who yo...

wise and beautiful words

Our world desperately needs to come in from the lost islands of desiccated individualism and learn to stand again on the fecund earth where vibrant and vital interaction can happen between people. Our world is facing so many crises ecologically, economically, and spiritually. These cannot be overcome by isolated individuals. We need to come together. There is incredible power in a community of people who are together because they care, and who are motivated by the ideals of compassion and creativity.
