Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Carrington Care

Today, we honour the women who use our services and whose strength and experiences have paved the way for all of us. We celebrate the women who care for our families and communities, and the many women across the care sector whose dedication supports others every day.

We are especially proud of the incredible women within our Carrington Care team, and the women in leadership across the sector who guide with integrity and empathy. At Carrington, their leadership continues to strengthen our organisation and our community.

This year’s theme, Inspire Inclusion, reminds us of the power of connection, dignity, and lifting one another.

At Carrington, we want to provide residents with a variety of opportunities to enjoy international cuisines from cultures around the world.

To celebrate the first week of the Chinese New Year – the year of the Horse, Residents across Carrington enjoyed a traditional Chinese lunch today. The menu included sweet and sour pork, fried rice, Asian vegetables, and prawn crackers.

One resident shared that the food was “absolutely delicious” and that they really enjoyed it.

“Cultural events like this are a great way to bring everyone together to enjoy good food, new experiences, and celebrate our diversity,” said Joshua Grant, Executive Manager of Operations and Human Resources.

As we welcome the Year of the Horse, we celebrate the strength, optimism, and forward momentum it represents; qualities we see every day in our customers, families, community, and staff.

This New Year is a moment to honour culture and connection, and to look ahead with confidence and hope.

To everyone celebrating, we wish you good health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead.

Riverview Resident, Mavis Nobbs, turned 100 today!

Mavis said there was so much wisdom to share that she couldn’t possibly share it all, but she did say that the secret to a long life is hard work and stubbornness.

“You also have to learn to love everyone,” she said.

“She always has a smile on her face,” said Riverview Concierge Lianne Rowles.

Happy birthday, Mavis!

It is important to recognise the dedicated people who work with us.

That's why in December, we celebrated the winners of our Annual CARE Recognition Awards, the Chairman's Award, the Talent Recognition Award, and Service awards for those who have spent a significant part of their careers with us.

CARE Recognition Award winners:

These awards are presented to those who represent our CARE values in every aspect of their work, as seen by their colleagues. Their compassion, professionalism, and dedication make them invaluable members of our community.

Our winners for 2025 are:

Considerate – Katie Stevens
Attentive – Linda Ross
Responsive – Janine Davis
Excellence – Cassandra Edouard-Betsy

Talent Recognition Award winner:

This award recognises new or emerging talent with us. This award is for people who show exceptional adaptability when learning new skills and demonstrate initiative in the workplace.

The 2025 Talent Recognition Award is Briyahn Luck.

Chairman's Award winner:

The Chairman's Award is given to someone who has shown extraordinary care in everything they do, reflecting our CARE values to the people in their care and their colleagues, and is picked by our Chairman, Alek Jankowski.

Our Chairman’s Award winner for 2025 is Samantha Hailstone.

Congratulations to all of our award winners. You were nominated by your colleagues, who work alongside you every day, saw your diligence, and sought to recognise you.

UNE Partnerships has expressed its gratitude to our Allied Health team for their role in mentoring students earning their Certificate Three in Allied Health Assistance.

The students study with UNE Partnerships, but Carrington provides a valuable, hands-on learning environment that is fundamental to their development as health care professionals.

UNE said Carrington’s Allied Health team “solidifies (the students) skills but also inspires their confidence and passion for a future career in healthcare.”

Allied Health Coordinator Adriaan Rossouw (left) and Lead Allied Health Assistant Callum Joseph (right) said part of their roles is mentoring up-and-coming health care workers.

“We are glad to be part of the journey to build our next generation of allied health assistants and allied health professionals, especially in the aged care sector,” Adriaan said.

“Allied health makes such a difference to the lives of our older people. We look forward to continuing to work alongside UNE to continue advocating for and improving healthcare in the aged care sector.”

Thank you to the students who learned with us last year. We can’t wait to work with more of you in the year to come.
