Get to know SPECTRA, the newest Facility Dog recruit.

Graduation day is a big deal for everyone. especially for four-legged friends! Spectra officially stepped into his new role as a Facility Dog recently in Sydney, ready to spread joy and comfort wherever he goes.

He’s already hard at work, splitting his time between the Canine Court Companion Program at Sutherland Courthouse and visiting aged care residents at IRT Berala. Residents who rarely smile were beaming, and nervous court attendees found calm and reassurance in his friendly and cheerful presence.

Dogs like Spectra have the skills and personalities to bring independence, comfort, and joy to people in courts, aged care facilities, schools, workplaces, and beyond.

NexGard SPECTRA’s partnership with Guide Dogs provides parasite protection for all of their puppies, dogs in training, working dogs, and even retired Guide Dogs. Spectra was proudly named by the NexGard SPECTRA team, who have followed his journey every step of the way.

🚫 **FACTS ABOUT FLEAS** 🚫

Did you know?

The most common way pets pick up fleas is from the environment (e.g. when on a walk, playing in the dog park, at the beach, or in the backyard or balcony). Fleas rarely jump from pet to pet.

Only 5% of a flea problem is the adult fleas on your pet. The other 95% is the immature stages in the pet’s environment.

By the time you see adult fleas on your pet it’s most likely there are already flea eggs, larvae and pupae established in your home.

The best way to prevent a flea infestation is to use an effective flea control product like NexGard SPECTRA year-round for all dogs and cats in the household.

🌡️ **HEATSTROKE IN PETS: KNOW THE DANGER SIGNS** 🌡️

Australian summer temperatures can be lethal for our pets. Dogs and cats can’t cool down like we do, making them vulnerable to heatstroke.

**WARNING SIGNS:**

- Heavy panting or difficulty breathing
- Excessive drooling
- Bright red gums/tongue
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Weakness or collapse

**PREVENTION:**

- Never leave pets in cars (not even with windows down)
- Walk during cooler hours (before 8 am, after 6 pm)
- Provide shaded areas and plenty of water
- Consider cooling mats or damp towels

**If heatstroke occurs:** Cool them gradually with tepid (not ice cold) water and get to a vet IMMEDIATELY.

🚨 **PARALYSIS TICK SEASON HIGH RISK PERIOD** 🚨

We're still in the highest risk period for paralysis ticks (spring and summer). Just one of these tiny parasites can be deadly for our pets.

**Know the signs:**

Pets may show one or more of the following signs:
- A loss of co-ordination in the hind legs (wobbly or not being able to get up) which may progress to paralysis
- A change in voice (bark or meow)
- Vomiting or retching
- Coughing
- Laboured or rapid breathing

To help prevent tick paralysis in your pet:

- Use a proven tick control product like NexGard SPECTRA

- Make the home environment less tick friendly by moving lawns and removing leaf litter etc
