What does enduring weight loss look like in a group of 2886 people who have successfully lost 5-10% of their body weight (a minimum of 13.5kg) and kept it off for at least two years? Initially the average loss for the group was 31.3kg each, at 5 years it was 23.8kg at 10 years 23.1kg. Even with the regain, 87% of the group remained 10% below their original weight.

Weight loss for health needs to be about finding greater pleasure and satisfaction. People who lose weight and keep it off find they derive the same enduring pleasure from the exercise and healthy behaviour changes they used to lower their weight. They found something to enjoy and that enjoyment did not diminish the longer they maintain their healthy weight.
