Your Body, Your Emotions, and That Amazing Fascia
When I talk about fascia, it's so much more than just a physical thing. It's this absolutely incredible, all-encompassing web that literally holds you together, from your head to your toes. And what many people do not realise is that it's deeply and intimately connected to how you feel.
Have you ever noticed how your shoulders creep up to your ears when you're stressed? Or how you feel "uptight" when you're anxious? That's your fascia reacting! It's incredibly sensitive, packed with nerve endings, and it's constantly communicating with your nervous system β our body is a vessel that reacts to our emotions.
The body stores emotions within this very fascial system. When you go through a tough time, or even just deal with the everyday pressures of life, your body naturally tightens up as a protective mechanism. If that tension never really gets a chance to unwind, it can get stuck in your fascia.
It's like your body holds onto those old feelings, which can show up as stiffness, aches, and diseases (dis-ease) in the body. Your body will then protect itself and guard against anything that may harm it again, it has a memory and the memory comes unconsciously.
So, when I work with the body it's not just about making muscles longer or relaxed, it's about gently coaxing that fascia to release, to soften, to let go of what it's been holding onto. And what's truly amazing is that when that physical tension starts to melt away, so often, people experience a profound emotional release too. It's like a deep, cleansing sigh for your entire system.
I truly believe that to feel your best β physically and emotionally β you've got to look at the whole picture. Your fascia isn't just about movement; it's a vital part of your emotional landscape. By giving it the gentle care it needs, you're not just improving your body; you're nurturing your entire being. It's truly transformative.
