Homocysteine is one of the most overlooked blood markers I see in clinic especially in women who feel inflamed, puffy, anxious, or notice changes in their cycle despite “doing everything right.”

When homocysteine rises, it’s rarely random. It usually reflects a system under strain nutrient depletion, gut absorption issues, chronic stress, or increased hormone and detox demands. This is why elevated homocysteine often sits alongside puffiness, skin reactivity, sleep disruption, PMS or cycle changes.

The good news is that this marker is responsive. When nutrient foundations are restored and the body feels supported again, inflammation settles, hormones regulate more easily, and homocysteine often comes down naturally.

**Taking iron doesn’t automatically mean iron levels will rise**

Iron absorption and storage depend on:

the digestive system
gut lining
the liver
Nutrient status
Pill usage
Protein intake

…and not just the dose in a capsule.

If stomach acid is low, bile flow is sluggish, or the gut lining is irritated, iron may pass through without being absorbed or can remain poorly utilised.

This is why I see women take high dose iron consistently and still see little change in ferritin ( iron stores).

Iron also relies on a network of nutrients and metabolic signals to move into storage. Vitamin A, B12, folate, zinc and adequate protein all play key roles in transporting, binding and storing iron in the body.

Liver workload and hormone binding proteins such as SHBG further influence how iron is handled.

When these foundations are supported, iron can finally be absorbed and stored effectively 👏 often without higher doses or harsh supplementation.

Listen up ladies 📣 because this one is big…

Soy intake is associated with a lower risk of endometriosis!

The study released in Frtikity and sterility just this month has followed over 80 000 women (not animals) and is the first of its kind to look in-depth at soy and endo risk.

** HIT SAVE **

* Light pink or very short period → Low estrogen
Your lining didn’t build up enough often linked to stress, under-fuelling, or thyroid issues.

* Heavy flow or clots → Poor estrogen clearance
Your liver or detox pathways may need support.

* Brown spotting before or after period → Low progesterone. Common when ovulation is weak or stress is high.

* Short cycle (35 days or irregular) → Delayed ovulation or PCOS tendency. Often related to insulin resistance, stress, or inflammation disrupting hormone signals.

* Very painful periods → High prostaglandins or low progesterone. When inflammation is high or progesterone is low, the uterus contracts more intensely, leading to stronger cramps.

* PMS mood swings or irritability → Low progesterone or poor GABA signalling. Progesterone normally supports calm; when it’s low or not well converted to allopregnanolone, mood becomes more sensitive in the luteal phase.
