• Pruning and hedging I first started in this industry as an apprentice for Green Options in 2008 as a horticulturalist where I worked in garden maintenance on multi million-dollar properties across the Vaucluse and the Rose Bay area. I wasn’t there long before a job opportunity arose at a local golf course and before I knew it, I was signed up us an apprentice Greenkeeper. I spent the next 6 years on golf courses and by the time id reached the 4th year in my apprenticeship id been promoted to 2nd in charge at Kareela golf club where I was also acting super intendant for a short period of time. This also made me eligible to be fast tracked to a tradesman 6months early. In my time spent on golf courses I learnt all aspects of plant and turf nutrition, large-scale irrigation and drainage systems, operation of large machinery such as, ride on mowers, tractors and front end loaders, Chemical spraying, soil preparation and testing, large scale maintenance programs, fertilizer programs as well as pest, weed and disease management. After moving on from golf courses I went into landscape construction working on large commercial construction sites for Glenn Simpson Landscapes. I also worked for tranquil element landscapes where I was managing the maintenance sector of the business while also helping out on residential landscape jobs when needed. In my 2 ½ years landscaping I learnt many aspects of construction from sandstone and timber retaining walls, to paving and garden edging, large scale planting and turfing and the operation of excavators.
