After recovering from two major hip surgeries in the last twelve months, I have a new appreciation for my body and my mobility that I couldn’t have ever imagined.
Yoga is the gift that keeps on giving. For me, it has changed my experience of the past 1-2 years in two profound ways:
1. Without my yoga teacher training, I wouldn't have listened to the wisdom of my body and all the messages it was sending me. The pain, the swelling, the discomfort ... it’s easy in today’s society to “put up with it and move on”. But our bodies speak louder every time we ignore our intuition, and this was certainly true for me.
2. Pain management and mental health - at times the journey has been scary and painful. My mind would be consumed by endless “what if’s”. I had sleepless nights and long days where even tiny movements would bring tears to my eyes and shooting pains. Being on crutches for 6 out of the last 12 months and lacking independence was challenging and frustrating. One of the thoughts that would often help me in the moment was to remember that nothing lasts forever. That I know my body best and I should feel empowered when interacting with the medical system. I’m grateful for the staff and nurses for their warmth and care during my hospital stays.
Yoga isn't a cure-all. Nothing is. But for me, it has been a significant part of my journey. I am also in a privileged position to seek specialist medical advice, and fortunate enough to have a tribe of loving and supportive family and friends.
During the last year many people assumed that I wasn’t able to “do yoga”. But the truth is that I have been able to connect more deeply inward to my personal practice than ever before, because doing postures upright on a mat is just a small portion of the vastness that is the universe of yoga.
I am now more committed than ever to paying forward the healing benefits of yoga - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Coming from a corporate background in HR and Organisational Development, I've seen and experienced how demanding our work lives can be - and also how tough we are on ourselves.
I’m excited to launch my private 1:1 yoga lessons and to provide a personalised experience for wherever you are on your journey - of yoga, and of life! I am passionate about working with women who are seeking more balance, fulfilment and inner strength in their everyday lives.
