This recent case report highlights a rare but high-risk condition: a carotid web causing stroke without significant localised stenosis. A 33-year-old patient experienced embolic infarction following neck manipulation. Ultrasound played a crucial role in identifying a mobile thrombus at the internal carotid artery origin, ultimately linked to a carotid web confirmed by histopathology.
While strokes associated with carotid webs are uncommon, the re-occurrence rate is high, emphasising the need for timely recognition. This case underscores the importance of sonographer education in detecting rare vascular anomalies to prevent potentially devastating outcomes.
