Care at home is a game changer. For low risk women, care often has much better outcomes in the home. Research shows that Homebirth is associated with less postpartum haemorrhages, less fetal distress and less intervention with a higher satisfaction.
I’m always available to chat if you would like more information on Homebirth.

This homebirth required no more than a warm pool to bring peace to a labouring mum. Water should not be underestimated, it is a powerful analgesia. Birth pools are quick and easy to set up and a perfect addition to birth at home.

Birth Maps & Birth Plans

I strongly encourage women to document their labour and birth preferences in a written birth map or birth plan. During labour, this allows you to remain focused on the physical and emotional work of birth, without needing to verbalise or explain your wishes.

A birth map or plan can outline your preferences for the type of birth you are hoping for, pain relief options you may or may not wish to use, and choices regarding care for your baby after birth. It provides clarity for your care providers and supports informed, respectful decision-making.

Throughout my years working as a midwife, I have found birth plans invaluable in helping me understand a woman’s wishes before labour begins. This enables me to provide quiet, attentive care — observing and supporting the labour without unnecessary interruption or distraction.

If you would like support creating a birth map or birth plan, or are interested in antenatal education, I offer in-home sessions tailored to your individual needs. I also provide birth support and home birth services as a private midwife.

Please get in touch to discuss availability, as spaces are limited each month.

Don’t doubt yourselves! You are strong and very capable to birth your own baby. Labour and birth is as much a mental as is a physical journey.

Preparation for birth including positive affirmations, hypnobirthing techniques, birth education and having solid support people around you, can have a huge impact on your birth outcome, as well as your care provider.

Women who prepare themselves for birth by educating themselves about their birth choices, choosing care providers who specialise in normal birth are more likely to achieve a birth with no/minimal intervention.

Are you pregnant or trying? Prepare yourselves by researching your care providers, how labour works and what you can do you reduce the chances of interventions.
