Honestly, it’s true. It’s why when someone converses with me about something and asks my opinion I give it without the purpose of that person needing to follow through or a even a ‘I told you so’ if the advice seems likes it hasn’t landed. People know what they need, their own mind knows what they could probably tell you what they need BUT we still end up in the same cycles. It may not be within there capacity to stop if an unfinished trauma cycle isn’t finished…

Sound familiar? This could be your nervous system in charge, it keeps putting you in these cycles, dynamics, relationships with hope of a different outcome. Sad thing is the trigger cycles usually replicate the same outcome as the core cycle itself trying to close because our nervous system is looking for the closure in the same places.

There is a way out. Somatic Awareness can help up gain insight to what need we are trying to be filled, an unmet need from childhood? A unmet need passed down in our parent nervous system? What ever it is let’s explore together.

A hand on Somatic Session can involve Somatic Massage, Myofascial Release, Myofascial Cupping and Spinal Flow techniques. It is a good choice when you would describe the ability to feel your internal signals as not as strong as you would like or when you struggle with connecting to them. This can also be beneficial to people who describe the body to be numb or dissociative. It’s all about using my attuned touch as a guide to bring awareness to parts of your body and what they may hold for you. I use my skills to track how the body may be reacting to this attuned touch and act as a mirror, bringing your awareness to change I witness in the external body and ask what may be going on internally when you focus. Somatic Awareness is like a muscle; the more you use it the stronger it becomes, sometimes we may just need a little guidance in the beggining, especially if the body has numbed for a reason. That’s when intentional, supportive touch with no expectation on the body is very beneficial. We meet the body where it’s at, not where we think it should be.

It’s here! Starting Saturday 6th June I will be hosting a FREE Somatic Healing Circle where we will start to create the community we need in challenging times. This circle will be what ever it needs to be, a chance to meet pals, talk, find support and maybe even having book recs to help us learn and grow in life. Community to humans is everything, some of us have lost it along the way. This is the chance to come together again. With like minded people. With me, a Somatic Therapist to help guide us with somatic tools and practices if needed.

To join please sign up in the link in my bio. We will be in the pink room the 1st Saturday of every month. Bring snacks to share, an open mind, kindness and compassion for each other as humans.

I will say this is open to everyone, as I strive to create a supportive environment and hope we can learn and grow together, in saying that we are Q***r and proud here, please honour this as a q***r space, allies are very welcome. We celebrate neurodiversity in this space. We are students in the decolonisation movement but we are still unlearning and learning, If adjustments or adaptations are needed to make your community more welcome please reach out to me personally. I will do what I can do and listen with intention.

Try this one out. I use this in my Somatic Sessions with clients when I can actively see an activation or freeze in their body. It’s a great tool to have in our back pocket for self and community. It’s great to do if someone is experiencing a panic or anxiety attack. Closing the eyes sometimes can help as it takes away a sense and helps bring us into the moment rather than wha the body assumes is a danger coming. There is a difference in just doing an action and being really present in feeling an action, make sure you are in the latter, relaxing your tongue.

Let me know how your body responds.

To experience emotions is to be human. If we find it hard to sit with an emotion, this could be a Trauma Response. The body expecting a certain outcome from the feeling so it doesn’t allow us to go there, especially alone.

Do you find yourself hard to sit in your emotions?

Come explore this in a Somatic Therapy session. Link in bio to book.

Surviving isn’t Thriving. We need support through the not so bad as well as the really bad. When we wait till it gets to this we are only allowing ourselves to stay just above water enough to survive, but we need to become stronger swimmers, gain the tools, build the life raft then invite others to get on the raft.

There is no point in waiting till there is no other way out. We all need help and tools to survive this world. No shame in this game.

Confrontation can be so uncomfortable but it is a part of life. When our body deems that violence may come out of confrontation we can freeze, a protection measure from the body. We know logically that a meeting with a boss, chat with a friend or other forms of confrontation don’t mean this, but we can’t stop these reactions happening…Sound familiar?

Your body could be reacting in a trauma response, we cannot get out these cycles alone. Without closing the stress cycles associated with the response, we remain stuck, it’s affirmed we can’t use our voice or stick up for ourselves, then comes in the shame guilt and ruminating thoughts of how we wished we’d handled it.

It’s all too familiar and it’s something that Somatic Trauma Therapy can help you move past.

I think this is what shocks people about Somatic Therapy. Theres nothing really that can get you ready to feel emotions that you have been pushing down forever. We aim to allow the body to feel and process in a supportive setting, in small manageable amounts… but sometimes, especially after your first session, this can happen once your out the room. I give all my clients free access to my online workshop which contains Somatic Exercises to help with overwhelm, that are ok to do on your own. We can’t really navigate when the body will allow us to feel these emotions. We gain the tools and capacity to know these emotions won’t consume us.

All we are doing is bringing awareness to the body. To integrate they need to pass through. I wish it wasn’t this way. When we hinder our ability to feel ‘negative emotions’ we are also hindering our ability to feel the love, joy and happiness that can be residing in the same area.

To do this alone is too much, especially when it’s connected to core traumas. This is what this supportive setting can provide.
