To ensure clinical and professional growth we feel that it is important we interact with our colleagues on both an intellectual and social level. INTRODUCING SUKI, OUR CO-SECRETARY! 👋👋

Suki graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2019 with a Bachelor of Vision Science and a Master of Clinical Optometry. She began her career in 2020 in Sydney’s Hills District, gaining valuable experience in a busy metropolitan setting before relocating to Canberra in 2022. After serving as Managing Optometrist for a busy corporate practice, Suki transitioned to a dual role, working alongside a local ophthalmologist at Clarity Eye Surgeons and providing full scope independent eye care at Evolve Optometry in Gungahlin. Suki ‘s primary interests are in paediatric eye care and binocular vision disorders.

Our Young Optometrists team is dedicated to fostering a community that supports young optometrists. Join us and be part of something meaningful!

Eye Definition Optometrists in Wolli Creek is looking to hire a new graduate to join our team on a part-time basis.

We are an independent clinic dedicated to full-scope optometry, with a special interest in advanced contact lenses and behavioural optometry. Due to the patient demographic of our clinic, proficiency in Mandarin is preferred.

YO Christmas Party Recap!

Last week, we held our 2025 YO Christmas Party to celebrate the end of another big year. It was wonderful to see so many of our YO members come together on the night 🎉

To our 5th year STUYO members, it was especially great celebrating with you — congratulations again on completing your studies. We’re excited to welcome you as you transition from optometry students to our colleagues as optometrists in 2026, and we hope to see many of you joining us as full YO members at events throughout the year!

There are many exciting things planned for 2026, including workshops, CPD, and networking events, and we cannot wait to see you all in the new year.

To all new graduate optometrists, please save the date for Saturday 7 February for our New Graduate Bootcamp, where you’ll gain practical tips and insights to support you as you begin your graduate journey!

Young Optometrists (YO) is a volunteer-run organisation dedicated to supporting optometrists in their first decade of practice. We’re here to uplift young professionals as they navigate the early stages of their careers, build confidence, and find their place in the profession.

Founded in 2011 by a passionate group of newly graduated optometrists—Rebecca Li, Rajeev Naidu, Jack Phu, Chris Pooley, Carina Trinh and Megan Tu—YO was created by optometrists, for optometrists.

Last month, and hosted our first overseas CPD event in one very special location — the optometry classroom of a Nepalese eye hospital.

Speakers Shaun and Louise covered real cases and clinical pearls from the mountains, seen during the 2025 E4E Annapurna outreach trip.

Over the weekend we ran our annual Young Optometrists Therapeutic Study Session at the UNSW Optometry Clinic, where volunteer optometrists worked through real therapeutic cases with fifth-year students preparing for their exams.

The energy throughout the day was fantastic, and it was great to see how prepared and switched-on the students are. Good luck for your oral therapeutics!

A heartfelt thanks to the six volunteer optometrists who gave up part of their Saturday to share their knowledge and support the next generation.

And a big thank-you to Coopervision for sponsoring the day, and to the UNSW Optometry Clinic for the space.
