The anchor sits at the base of the ocean. It is calm and quiet down there, despite all the activity on the surface. Turbulent waves and strong winds combine and water is splashed across my face. Unrelenting. The information overload, the constant barrage of expectation to adapt. Yet I am anchored. A

The Medium is the Message When we take a rusty, steel chisel and carve a line into granite, it leaves a deep and lasting impression. When we take that same rusty, steel chisel and carve a line into sand, it leaves an impression that, over some time, will disappear. Take that same rusty, steel chi

Happy New Year! The earth has made one more revolution around the sun and as my friend Cindy recently said, we are reminded again to be happy. Be happy. How do we ‘be happy’? What is the source of our happiness and how do we stay happy? The source of our happiness is either external to us, which...

We are slowed down sound and light waves, a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the cosmos. We are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music.

You Are The One Holding The Stone

So much of the world's attention is focused on the result of the US election and there is not doubt, it has big ramifications worldwide. The thing is, we place such a great emphasis on these so called world leaders and sometimes we forget our role in the big picture of evolution.

The world is always evolving from less sophistication to greater sophistication and to create a better world, takes more than one person. It doesn't happen in isolation, but it does require someone to throw the stone into the lake and create the ripple of raising the collective consciousness.

If you are reading this, you are the one holding the stone.

Research indicates that taking responsibility for your own state of consciousness will have a harmonising effect on the environment. As my ever-inspiring teacher Thom Knoles would say “be one of the few who lead the many”.

This week, Thom emailed his thoughts on elections and leaders, which he wrote before the 2016 election. The points below are still, if not more relevant today.

Raise the Average

• The world is for us as we can be for it.

• Your own state of consciousness is all you know; to change the world, change your own state of consciousness. You cannot stop a collective from behaving in accordance with its state of consciousness. You, too, behave only in accordance with your own state of consciousness.

• Your suffering is the result of your inaccurate expectations; it is not the responsibility of another.

• Nothing new happened that did not exist already; it is a shame to be surprised when a walnut tree produces walnuts. Act accordingly.

• "Leaders" are the mirror of the average state of collective consciousness; "leaders" are led by, and constrained by, a collective alone (there is no "leader" without enthusiastic followers).

• Raise the average; be personally exemplary of a higher consciousness state; until, personally, you lift the average, the collective behaves simply predictably. Don't expect "leaders" to lift a collective; that is grass-roots activity, it is your activity.

• These points are applicable universally.

Deepen Your Practice - Learn To Round

My old housemates and those meditators who know me well, are aware of my affinity with this powerfully healing technique. I performed a round every morning for almost five years as it supercharged my life. I felt more grounded, energised, and clear to tackle the daily demands of life. Nowadays, sharing this gentle technique with others is one of my favourite things to do.

A ‘Round’ is an advanced meditation technique that combines the 20-minute Vedic Meditation practice with a specific sequence of gentle yoga asanas (poses) and pranayama (breathwork).

When performed in correct sequence, the body begins to unwind deep-rooted stress before closing the eyes to meditate.

Despite its simplicity, a round has a profound effect on balancing the nervous system, lifting fatigue, improving our mental clarity and increasing our adaptation energy, particularly when incorporated into our regular routine.

A round is suitable for all Vedic or TM meditators, regardless of length of practice, age and fitness level.
