The natural way
Birth hasn’t always happened lying down.
For most of human history, women gave birth standing, squatting, or kneeling, positions that worked with the body, not against it.
Gravity helped.
Movement was natural.
The pelvis had more room to open.
Today, many births take place on the back.
This position is common in modern settings for monitoring and access, but it changes how the body works during labor.
When lying flat, gravity isn’t assisting.
The pelvis may have less space to expand.
Labor can feel more intense and sometimes take longer.
Your body, however, is built to move.
Upright positions can support the natural process by improving alignment and helping the baby descend.
Squatting, kneeling, or leaning forward can open the hips and make contractions more effective.
Every birth is different.
Every situation is unique.
What matters most is informed choice.
Understanding your options helps you work with your body, not against it.
Because birth is not one size fits all.
