Loved sharing this space with co-chair Anna Bednarak. As part of Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders we launched a book club for private practitioners in the SIG. This will continue monthly, so please reach out to join the next one ☝🏽

As part of being a co-chair of the ANZAED Private Practice Special Interest group Dr Maala Lal and I had the wonderful pleasure of running our first lunch time book club session today!

It was so wonderful to discuss the first chapter of the book Help For The Helper by Babette Rothschild & get a chance to meet a wonderful psychologist and dietitian working in the eating disorder space πŸ€“

Looking forward to the next book club meeting in November and to explore the wisdoms of chapter 2!

I spent years researching eating disorders within the South-Asian community. My research aimed to compare this population to their western counterparts. I worked with school aged children, athletes and even those struggling with an eating disorder.

If anyone has done a PhD they will know, it is not only professionally challenging, it is also a personal challenge. There were moments that I wanted to give up. But I knew it was right for me to carry on. I got to talk to so many different people, from all works of life, in different situations, created networks and contacts that remain to this date. So when SBS asked me for my input, I was so glad to be involved. Zain and his team did a remarkable job putting together 5 episodes on eating disorders, called The Disruptive Companion. They are short and sweet, but very validating and informative. Please have a listen when you get a chance.

Behaviour activation is changing behaviour to change your mental state. This is largely used in depression as part of cognitive behavioual therapy (CBT).

Inactivity has a large part to play in maintaining depression. By doing more positive and meaningful things in life, even if you don’t feel like it, can get you out of a negative cycle.
