✨ Hello 2026 ✨

As we step into a new year, we do so with purpose, momentum, and people at the centre of everything we do.

2025 was a year of growth, connection and meaningful outcomes at Bridges Alliance — supporting individuals to build skills, confidence and independence, while strengthening the communities around them.

In 2026, we remain committed to delivering person-centred, strengths-based support that empowers choice, inclusion and everyday independence.
More opportunities.
More connection.
More outcomes that truly matter.

To our participants, families, carers, partners and dedicated team — thank you for trusting us to walk alongside you. Together, we continue to support goals, celebrate progress, and create pathways for brighter futures.

Here’s to a year of possibility, progress and positive change. 🥂
Happy New Year from all of us at Bridges Alliance.

🎭 Access to Culture. Access to Life.

Last night, Lindsay experienced the magic of the Opera — not from the sidelines, but right in the heart of it.

Through Bridges Alliance Community Access, moments like these become possible. It’s about more than getting out and about — it’s about belonging, choice, and experiencing the world the same way everyone else does.

From the thrill of the venue to the atmosphere, the artistry and the sense of occasion — this was a night that mattered. A night that reminded us why community access is so powerful when it’s done right.

At Bridges Alliance, we don’t just support participation — we open doors to experiences that inspire confidence, joy and connection.

👏 Here’s to more nights like this.
🎶 More culture.
🌉 More opportunity.
💙 More life, lived fully.

🎄 A Little Laughter, A Few Surprises, A Lot of Gratitude 🎁

Watching our Bridges Alliance office team open their Secret Santa gifts was a reminder of what truly makes this season special — thoughtfulness, connection, and shared joy.

Behind every support plan, every community outing, and every meaningful moment, there’s a team who genuinely care — not just about the work we do, but about each other.

As the year comes to a close, we want to say thank you to our community, participants, families, and partners for being part of the Bridges Alliance journey.

✨ Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
May the season bring rest, reflection, and moments that make you smile.

From all of us at Bridges Alliance 💙

How It Differs from Other Roles
A common point of confusion is how a Support Coordinator differs from other key roles in your support team.

Support Coordinator vs. Support Worker: The Support Coordinator focuses on planning, coordination, and building your skills behind the scenes. The Support Worker provides hands-on, direct assistance with daily personal and domestic tasks.

Support Coordinator vs. Plan Manager: The Support Coordinator manages the services and supports in your plan. The Plan Manager handles the financial administration, processing invoices, and tracking your budget spending.

📈 Levels of Support Coordination
The NDIS offers different levels of funding based on individual needs:

Support Connection (Level 1): Short-term help to understand your plan and connect with initial services.

Coordination of Supports (Level 2): Ongoing support for those who need help managing multiple services and building long-term coordination skills.

Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3): The highest level for people with complex situations, often involving crisis management and navigating significant barriers.

📊 Detailed Comparison: SIL vs. SDA
Below outlines the key differences.

SIL (Supported Independent Living)
What it Funds - The support services and staff for daily living.
Its Purpose - To help with daily tasks and build skills for greater independence.
Common Examples Help with personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication, and community access.
Who It's For - Participants who need regular or 24/7 help with daily activities.
Key Point - Does NOT cover rent or household bills. It's for support only.

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation)
The physical, specially designed home itself.
To provide safe, accessible housing for people with significant physical impairment or complex needs.
Homes with features like wheelchair access, ceiling hoists, reinforced walls, and smart-home tech.
NDIS Budget Category Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Life). Capital Supports (Specialist Housing).
A smaller group (around 6%) with "extreme functional impairment" needing specialist housing design.
Does NOT cover personal support. It's for the housing cost only.

Understanding Your Plan Budget
This is about reading your plan and making your funds work. Key steps include:

Find Your Budget Statements: Locate the detailed tables showing the funding allocated to each support category (Core and Capacity Building).

Decode the Category Names: Match the names in your plan to the services you need (e.g., "CB Daily Activity" in your plan might mean funding for a life skills program).

Know the Management Style: Check if your funds are Plan Managed, Agency Managed, or Self-Managed, as this affects which providers you can use.

Track Your Spending: Use the NDIS portal or your Plan Manager's statements to monitor how much you've spent and what remains in each category.

Your Capacity Building Supports budget is your investment in future skills and independence. Unlike Core Supports, it’s for building your abilities to reduce your need for support in the long run.

Our Journey Together

Our CEO

Chief Executive Officer Averil Straney brought this vision to life in 2018 by founding Bridges Alliance after a professional career in local and regional program management and service delivery spanning over 20 years within the disability and community service sectors, most recently coordinating Ability Links NSW regional programs for Settlement Services International. Averil’s aim is focused and clear – to build high quality, interconnected services that align with and deliver on client choices and goals.

“My passion has always been to listen to and support those who struggle and fight to have their voice heard in our community. Bridges Alliance is a vehicle to bridge a pathway for people with a disability and their families and carers to fully engage in their communities and to create the best life possible.” - Averil Straney
