Ros came to Narrabri as a young teacher fresh from teachers college - and never really left. Decades on, former students stop her in the street to remind her of fingerpainting and singalongs. She doesn't always remember their names. They never forget hers.

Teaching wasn't just a career for Ros - it was her life. And if you ask her, she'd do it all over again.

There's more to Ros than the years she's lived. If you see age, you miss the person. Look again.❤️

Whiddon Temora - Narraburra residents had a wonderful day at the Temora Rural Museum Open Day.

They enjoyed seeing the old machinery in action and were especially thrilled by the parade of vintage vehicles, including a historic fire truck and ambulance.

The day was made even more enjoyable with a BBQ lunch and the chance to catch up with old friends. 🚂

Mardi Gras Magic at Whiddon Narrabri Robert Young

Our Wonderful resident, John was absolutely glowing as he shared the Mardi Gras spirit with our team members, handing out rainbow stickers and brightening everyone’s morning with his smile.

In a beautiful moment, John (who is usually non‑verbal) greeted each person with a cheerful “Happy Mardi Gras,” creating a heartfelt connection with our team.

The celebrations continued with a colourful morning tea, with plenty of pride‑filled energy.

A special moment for John and a reminder of the importance of inclusion, celebration, and coming together as a community. 💖🌈

There’s been no shortage of fun and connection at our Whiddon Grafton home lately. From Creature Comforts sessions with Floppsy and Cotton Tail the rabbits bringing plenty of smiles, to Friendship Day and Shrove Tuesday celebrations filled with pancake flipping and shared moments.

Our Memory Support residents have been enjoying their own cooking sessions, while Cooking Club continues to be a favourite for many. We’ve also had wonderful intergenerational visits, joining together for bingo and even the Nutbush - always a crowd favourite!

It’s been a lovely mix of activities across the home. 🧡

Sam Darke was born in South Grafton in 1933 - in a time when the floods came hard and fast. In one deluge, the water rose so quickly his family found themselves stranded on the roof. Even as a boy, Sam swam from the house to the township to get help - and it was in that same town he would one day meet Betty, the woman he'd marry in 1956 and raise four children with.

Somewhere along the way, a 1925 bullnose Morris sedan came into his life - his pride and joy - and sparked the formation of the Grafton Vintage Car Club, which grew from six members to sixty.

There's more to Sam than anyone could guess at first glance. If you see age, you miss the person. Look again.

Two beautiful moments of connection recently brightened the days at Whiddon Casino.

During a bus trip to the New Italy Museum and Café, resident Joan discovered a lovely surprise – her own family history featured in one of the displays. Joan spent time sharing stories with our Leisure team members and fellow residents over lunch, creating a memorable moment that reminded everyone just how small the world can be.

Back at the home, Resident Derek enjoyed a heartwarming visit from his much‑loved dog, Rusty. Rusty – an affectionate nine‑year‑old Shih Tzu–Maltese cross – was over the moon to see Derek, and it was clear the feeling was mutual. Moments like these sho just how special the bond between people and their pets can be.

It’s these everyday experiences that make our Casino home feel full of connection and meaning. 🧡

Celebrating Special Moments at Our Whiddon Laurieton Home 🌻

✨ Jenny – 20 Years of Service
AIN Jenny Hammond has reached an incredible 20 years with Whiddon. Jenny joined Whiddon after being a stay‑at‑home mum and has been part of our care team ever since. She says the best part of her role is caring for residents through the quiet hours, sharing quick chats and little stories, and seeing their faces light up when she walks through the door. Their smiles make her smile too.
Thank you, Jenny, for the heart and care you bring to our home.

🎉 Sheila’s Birthday Celebration
We also celebrated Resident Sheila’s 89th birthday. Sheila enjoyed her special day with her husband John and team member Piya (who made her amazing cake!) by her side - a beautiful moment for everyone who knows them.

Sheila has been part of our community for many years, first in our Retirement Living Units with John and now in our Residential Aged Care home. She loves reminiscence therapy, our garden club, and has lived a rich and adventurous life since arriving in Australia from England in her twenties. A proud mum of four, she has travelled far and wide across Australia in a caravan.

Please join us in celebrating Jenny and Sheila - two wonderful members of our Whiddon community.💛

Pamela Child, a much‑loved resident at Whiddon Easton Park - Sir David Martin since November 2025, recently shared in a very special milestone. Pam’s grandson couldn’t imagine getting married without his grandmother there, and with Pam unable to travel easily, attending an outside venue would have been incredibly difficult.

To make sure Pam could be part of their big day the couple chose to bring their wedding to Whiddon. On Saturday, 7th March, an intimate ceremony took place with around 20 close family members gathered to celebrate.

A heartfelt photo session followed, capturing the bride and groom with their adored grandmother.

A beautiful moment for the family. 💐

She was so happy throughout the celebration and said how special she felt on her big day.

Happy 103rd birthday, Pat. What an incredible milestone. 💐✨

Students from Prestons Public School visited Whiddon Easton Park - Taylor House as part of their Passion Program, which aligns beautifully with our Intergenerational Program. Our Wellbeing and Lifestyle team organised the students into small groups and guided them through the different wings of the home, giving residents plenty of opportunities to connect.

Residents welcomed the children with open arms and enjoyed a mix of structured and casual activities, including one‑to‑one chats, shared humour, Bingo, Uno, wooden tower games and even a little show and tell. The home was filled with energy and genuine connection, with the resident mentioning they're already looking forward to the next visit.

Bill Kerr once stood quietly in the shadows of history - protecting royalty, presidents, prime ministers, Pope John Paul II, and even the Apollo 11 astronauts on their visits to Australia.

For decades, his duty was their safety. His name, unknown. His work, unsung.
But ask Bill what he's most proud of, and it was never the line of duty. It was being a husband, a father, and the anchor to his family.

There's more to Bill than the years that mark his life. If you see age, you miss the person. Look again.
