As we approach the end of OT week, Anja, one of our OTs, explains the role they play in people's lives:
OTs help people do the things they want to do or are expected to do, e.g. activities of daily living e.g. personal care, cleaning, cooking, shopping, community/workplace/school participation, money management, meaningful activities/work/hobbies/play and sleep.

We work with children, teenagers and adults who present with complex disabilities and/or find themselves in complex service systems. Many of our clients have experienced significant trauma early in life or throughout their lives and we have the skills to see how this impacts a person’s development and participation. We understand the importance of structure, routine and rhythm and schedule our supports and interventions accordingly.

We currently provide services in:
Melbourne, Ballarat, Darwin, Tiwi Island, Maningrida and Katherine.

OT assessments include:
• Functional capacity/daily living skills assessments
• Home and living assessments
• Sensory assessments
• Fine and gross motor assessments
• Cognitive assessments

We provide the following OT supports:
• Daily life skills
• Social skills
• Fine and gross motor skills
• Sensory modulation strategies
• Training for parents and care providers
• Participation in care team meetings
• Provision of comprehensive reports

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is based on the understanding that traumatic or distressing experiences can get “stuck” in the brain and continue to impact how people feel and function. Through a structured process involving bilateral stimulation (often using eye movements, tapping or sound), EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories and reduce their emotional charge.

EMDR is a gold standard therapy for PTSD and has also shown benefits for people suffering with anxiety and depression. SAL Consulting is excited to offer this modality and our EMDR practitioners are proud to be registered through the EMDR Association of Australia (emdraa.org).
