This week, we brought our community together for our very first Support at Home Morning Tea — a chance for clients to get clear, confident, and ready for the upcoming changes.

With so much new information around the Support at Home Program, our goal was simple: to make it easier for our clients to understand what’s changing, what it means for their care, and how we’ll continue supporting them every step of the way.

Over 20 clients joined us for the session (including a few plus-ones!), and it was wonderful to see everyone asking questions and leaving feeling informed and reassured.

A huge thank-you to Hannah and our Aged Care Team for creating such a warm, welcoming space for learning and connection.

The Government has announced the release of an extra 20,000 Home Care Packages between now and November!

This will help more older Australians access the support they need – and it comes ahead of the new Support at Home program launching in November.

Is your Home Care Package still giving you the support you need? It's normal for your needs to change over time, but your package should change with them.

Here are 5 signs it might be time for an upgrade:

💰 Sacrificing essential services – Skipping physio, cutting cleaning visits, or delaying care to cover other costs.

🏥 Recent hospital visit – Needing wound care, medication help, or mobility support after being discharged.

🚶 Struggling with everyday movements – Finding it harder to get out of bed, climb stairs, or stand from a chair.

🤝 Relying more on others – Asking family, friends, or neighbours for lifts, bin runs, or extra help.

Yesterday, the team celebrated Aged Care Worker Appreciation Day in style!

We shared food, gratitude — and plenty of laughter — as our Support Workers popped in between shifts.

☎️ Will I be able to contact my care manager directly?

Breakdowns in communication are one of the most common reasons people switch providers. Some providers don’t give clients direct phone access to their care manager, which can leave you feeling unheard or stuck waiting for a call back. Make sure you’ll have a clear, direct line of communication.

🌏 Where are you located?

Providers without a strong local presence often send workers from outside your area, which can result in travel delays or cancelled shifts. Ask them if they have staff in your suburb, and how they manage travel times.

💵 Will someone explain how budgets and billing works?

Home care is pretty confusing at the best of times. Getting surprised by unexpected fees or trying to read a statement can make it even worse. Make sure your potential provider is upfront about their fees and package management.

What happens if you can’t afford Support at Home?

Good news — Financial Hardship Assistance will be available for people who are struggling.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Already receiving a Home Care Package and worried about the cost of Support at Home?

You might already be eligible for financial assistance, and it will roll over once Support at Home starts

📄 Already approved for hardship support?
Your support will carry over when you move to Support at Home. Just check your approval letter for the expiry date.

🆕 New to Support at Home from Nov 2025?
You can apply through Services Australia to help cover costs like:
– 🛁 Personal care, home modifications
– 🍽️ Cleaning, meals, social support

💡 While your application is being assessed, you won’t need to pay. But if it’s rejected, you might need to backpay — so apply early and make sure everything is in order.

While many providers have welcomed the delayed launch of Support at Home, we were already prepared.

It’s meant certainty to clients about what Care Plans and budgets will look like under the new scheme, and clarity on a smooth transition come the November 1 launch of Support at Home.
