April marks to raise awareness, education and support for the up to one in three women and people assigned female at birth who will suffer from this condition in their lifetime.

A similar but separate condition to endometriosis, adenomyosis is a benign uterine condition where endometrial tissue grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. Sufferers live with heavy, painful periods which can significantly impact their quality of life. But there are experts and evidence-based treatments that can help.

This seminal piece of work conducted by the Condous group in 2013 has been adopted into the IDEA methodology. The sliding sign is used to assess for the presence or absence of adhesions between the re**um and the cervix/uterus. This is performed by the sonographer and is a great way to predict potential high stage endometriosis.

The sliding sign, which was started in Sydney by the Condous team, has now been adopted in Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia.

The Condous team has truly changed the face of non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis worldwide.

If you’re preparing for an initial OMNI transvaginal ultrasound scan, keeping track of your symptoms can make a real difference.

Logging things like pain levels, bloating, fatigue, diet changes, bowel or bladder symptoms and even how you’re feeling day to day can help paint a clearer picture of what your body is experiencing. This information can support more informed conversations with your healthcare provider and help them better understand your symptoms over time.

Endometriosis symptoms aren’t always obvious. While many people know about painful periods, there are other signs that often go unnoticed.

Here, our founder, Professor George Condous, breaks down lesser-known symptoms to keep an eye out for. Because if something in your body feels off, it’s worth listening to.

“Thirteen is the number of surgeries I’ve had to treat this condition,” says journalist Julie Snook. “[Endometriosis] isn’t just like a broken arm, we can’t just put a cast on it and fix it. It’s internal, it’s silent, it’s a silent disease – and one that’s plaguing one in seven Australian women.”

In a recent article, Snook opens up about how endometriosis has impacted her life and why she’s determined to help other women feel supported.
