✨Impulse control
✨Task persistence [not giving up when it gets too difficult]

We are all very guilty of this, I am looking at my clutter-filled work desk as we speak! 🤣

But did you know: Minimising clutter can help you retain focus, lessen anxiousness and increase productivity.

✨ Less clutter = Less stimulation = Clearer thought process ✨

🧠🌈 Neurodivergence

Let’s talk about it for a minute.

✨Firstly. It is NOT a deficit. It is how a brain develops, processes and responds to information and the world around it. It can include individuals with experiences such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Dyslexia and many other neurological variations.

✨These brains may think very creatively, notice patterns that neurotypical individuals might miss, or process sensory input more intensely. Alongside strengths, it is important to be mindful that there may be some genuine challenges - particularly in environments that where not designed for neurodivergent mind.

✨It may take a lot of energy for our neurodivergent friends to “keep up” and “fit” expectations. Something that may look like behaviour difficulties/avoidance/defiance/ may actually just be their nervous system trying to adapt and cope.

🎈Let’s shift our thinking from asking “what’s wrong?” to: “what does this person need?”. Watch everything change.

Before you judge a parent’s choices, pause. What may look “different” to you may be the very thing keeping a child safe, regulated or alive.

🔸Before you judge a parent for using a child harness,
🔸Before you judge a child wearing headphones,
🔸Before you judge a parent for letting their child use an iPad,
🔸Before you judge a child having “tantrum”,

I want you to think of the alternative. What would happen if:

🔹 The child did not have their harness in the middle of a busy road,
🔹 The child was not wearing headphones while in a noisy crowd,
🔹 The child was not using their iPad at this very given moment,
🔹 The parent took alternative action in the middle of a shopping centre while their child was dysregulated.

❓Are we really in a position to judge other parents based on our own biases? Absolutely not.

Not knowing the lived experience and/or intervention that has gone into making these types of decisions leaves us in no position to mock or judge.

Different tools and strategies does not mean bad parenting. It is adaption to the circumstances.
