🐱 Respect Your Cat Day 🐾

Today is all about appreciating our feline friends and respecting the unique ways they show love, set boundaries, and rule the household.

Cats like things on their own terms - whether it’s choosing when they want affection, claiming the warmest spot in the house, or supervising everything you do. Respecting their space, understanding their behaviour, and providing enrichment helps keep them happy and stress-free.

So today, let your cat sit where they want, give them their favourite treats, and remember… we’re all just living in their world. 😸

🐶 Happy National Puppy Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating the tiny paws, wagging tails, and endless energy that puppies bring into our lives. From their first vet visit to all the milestones that follow, watching puppies grow into happy, healthy dogs is one of the best parts of what we do.

If you’ve recently welcomed a puppy into your family, make sure they’re set up for a healthy start with vaccinations, parasite prevention, and regular check-ups. A little care early on goes a long way in helping them live a long and happy life.

And of course… we never say no to puppy cuddles at the clinic. 💛

Brushing your pet’s teeth is one of the best things you can do for their health 🐾🪥
Dental disease is incredibly common in both dogs and cats, but with a simple routine at home, you can help keep their mouth clean and healthy. 🦷 ✨

How to brush your pet’s teeth:

1️⃣ Use a pet-safe toothbrush and toothpaste
Never use human toothpaste, as it can be harmful for pets. Always choose toothpaste made specifically for dogs or cats. Use a soft toothbrush such as a baby/child’s toothbrush or a soft silicone finger brush.

2️⃣ Start slowly
Let your pet smell and taste the toothpaste first. This helps them feel comfortable before introducing the toothbrush.

3️⃣ Lift the lip gently
Focus on the outside surfaces of the teeth, especially the back teeth where plaque tends to build up.

4️⃣ Use small circular motions
Brush gently along the gum line. Even 30–60 seconds can make a big difference.

5️⃣ Make it positive
Reward your pet with praise, cuddles, or a treat so they associate brushing with a positive experience.

✨ Aim to brush your pet’s teeth daily, or as often as possible. Regular brushing can help prevent bad breath, plaque buildup, and painful dental disease.

If you’re unsure where to start, your vet team can always help guide you. 🦷

Why does my pet have bad breath? 🐾👄

If your pet’s kisses are clearing the room, it’s probably not “just normal dog breath.” Bad breath (halitosis) is often one of the first signs that something isn’t quite right.

🦷 Dental disease – The most common cause. Plaque and tartar build-up can lead to gum infection and tooth decay.
🍖 Something stuck – Bones, hair, or foreign material can get trapped between teeth.
🦠 Infection or abscess – A cracked or infected tooth can smell particularly foul.
🐶 Diet – Some foods (or sneaky scavenging) can cause temporary odour.
🩺 Health conditions – In some cases, bad breath can be linked to underlying issues like kidney disease or diabetes.

Regular 6 monthly dental checks, brushing at home, and professional cleans can make a huge difference. If the smell is strong, sudden, or paired with drooling, pawing at the mouth, or reduced appetite - it’s time for a vet visit.

Fresh breath isn’t just about nicer cuddles - it’s about a healthier pet 💚🦷

Today we celebrate the strength, compassion and resilience of women everywhere. 💜

In the veterinary world, we’re especially proud of the incredible female vets and vet nurses who lead with both skill and heart. From long shifts to life-saving moments, from comforting anxious pet parents to advocating for those who cannot speak - women continue to shape and strengthen this profession every single day.

Here’s to the women breaking barriers, supporting one another, and showing up with dedication and empathy.

Happy International Women’s Day 🌸
